Last week's number one movie, "Underworld," is set to become a trilogy. The studio (Screen Gems) has made a deal for Danny McBride and Len Wiseman to pen a sequel to the femme-centric vampire versus werewolf thriller, which Wiseman will again direct. No deal is in place yet for star Kate Beckinsale, though she has expressed interest in reprising her part.

In a twist on the "Romeo and Juliet" romance, Beckinsale portrays a vampire warrior who falls in love with a werewolf (Scott Speedman). Pic was Wiseman's feature writing and directing debut.

"Underworld" earned $21.8 million in its bow, repping Screen Gems' best opening weekend ever. Screen Gems and Lakeshore hope to put the second "Underworld" movie into production as soon as possible. A third film, a prequel, could follow.
