Club Med Sues Broken Lizard
Suit claims title of horror comedy too close for comfort.
Club Med has filed a federal trademark infringement suit against Fox Searchlight to blocking the Feb. 27 release of "Broken Lizard's Club Dread" and destroy anything that may contain the movie title, up to and including all prints and one-sheets.
"Club Dread," which was directed by Jay Chandrasekhar ("Super Troopers") and stars the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, is a tongue-in-cheek horror movie in which a serial killer makes life difficult at the luxe Club Dread, an island paradise that features "limber, wanton women."
At the 54-year-old Club Med, about two-thirds of its business comes from families. However, the resort's VP of marketing Mark Wiser said, "The murders are the bad thing."
