This doesn’t sound familiar at all: A carload of bickering teens is headed to a rock concert, only to find themselves low on petrol, even lower on smarts, and stuck in the middle of nowhere at the mercy of a backwoods basket-case with murder on his mind.

Apparently, running out gas is more than just an ironic allegory for this weak, sputtering slasher. The killer’s crazy-brain is shocked into overdrive when one of the teens tries to steal gas from his family pump – just like the thugs who filched fuel from his parents when he was a tot, and murdered them before his eyes. Farmer Brown’s anger has lain dormant all this time, but now… there are some stock-character victims who need killing!

Brown won’t bother to go looking for trouble so luckily for him, everyone comes to his casa. The lonely, dimly lit old farmhouse in which he resides is a beacon for dimwits, as each kid wanders in one-by-one (of course, they’ve all split up) and is dispatched forthwith.  In no particular order -- the jock, the horn-dog, the geek, and the two hot chicks all die… no matter how slight their wounds, nor how slowly they stroll away from the menace. No chainsaws or machetes here -- much of the violence includes punches to the face, and de-handing – and certainly no suspense, tension, or horror.

There aren’t any extras on the DVD but at the end of the film, there are outtakes showing the flubbing of lines (let’s just say, these aren’t as funny as the Jackie Chan gold standard). By the way, the DVD box art has a quote from IFQ magazine (uncredited, natch) calling Dark Fields "The most terrifying movie experience of the decade." By terrifying, I am sure they meant tedious.
