In a special ceremony, Sigourney Weaver presented the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History with the egg from Twentieth Century Fox's 1986 movie, "Aliens," the sequel to the film that launched her career. The egg, along with a film script and movie poster, will join the museum's performing arts collection, which already includes Mr. Spock's ear tips from "Star Trek," and R2D2 and C3PO figures from "Star Wars."

The egg plays an important role in the film and in the identity of the series. The original movie poster's depiction of the egg, hatching a glowing green, is among the most recognizable images in modern movies. The egg stands 3 feet tall and 2 feet in diameter, and is made of Plaster of Paris, coated with a heavy stabilizing glaze.
