In the latest in a series of changes to the movie, Alexi Hawley (screenwriter for Pascal Franchot's upcoming "Grimm") has stepped in to "do a production polish" on the "Exorcist: The Beginning" script. Director Paul Schrader left the project earlier this year shortly after delivering the finished film to Morgan Creek. Reportedly, the studio felt the movie wasn't blood enough, while Schrader turned in a film high in psychological tension and horror. Morgan Creek then hired on Renny Harlin ("Nightmare on Elm Street 4") to reshoot several scenes - presumably to add whatever amount of gore they felt was lacking.
What effect will all these changes in direction have on the final film? Audiences should find out later in 2004.
