"Punisher" Producer Explains Florida Location

"The Punisher" trailer features many tropical scenes, but the movie will have a street feel. After his family is killed, Frank Castle heads to Tampa to exact his revenge. "But why Tampa?" the Comics Continuum asked.

"First reason is that's where the script is based," 'Punisher' producer Gale Ann Hurd said. "Frank Castle was on a number of different operations in the field. This is where his last undercover op was. It's unfortunately where things went down in a such way that his family paid the consequences. So's he come back for vengeance. For punishment."

The Continuum also talked to Marvel's Ari Arad, a co-producer who lived in Tampa during production. He said that while The Punisher isn't as well known as characters such as Spider-Man and The Hulk, that there is a built-in following for the film.

"The Punisher is actually pretty popular now, especially since about 2000," Arad said. "But he's actually always been pretty big. He's always been a big seller. And everybody knows that skull. It's almost one of those things that even if you don't know the Punisher, you've seen the imagery. We always looked at it as a marquee character."
