In an interview with Moviehole, director Len Wiseman confirms that "Underworld" is the first movie of three that he'll write in a series. On his way to work on the screenplay for the sequel, he revealed a bit about the next movie.

"This time we can expect more history about the vampires and the werewolves, which we weren't able to do in the first one. There's going to be a bit of actual battle in the medieval times between the werewolves and vampires, with like army-clad vampires on horses, kinda like "Braveheart". It'll play out a bit like "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" where the first ten to fifteen minutes of the film will be a prequel. We're going to really dive into the dark ages, and then centre some more on the modern day."

The director said much of the first film's cast (headed by Wiseman's real-life fiancée, Kate Beckinsale) will return. "But also new cast, too," he said. "It's in early development, so of course we have no idea whom, but yeah, some new people will be involved."

Reminds me a lot about the Wetworks comics... (which is where my avatar comes from) the great battle between wolf, vampire, and man... Crazy stuff... haven't seen the first yet... the animatronics looked bitchin' though...
