iMurders seems like a great idea, what with the CraigsList killer still fresh in our minds and the nationwide never-ending obsession with updating our statuses, getting linked in, tweeting, and basically broadcasting our every waking thought. Suddenly, we have hundreds of "friends" and are occasionally obliged share our innermost secret desires via emoticon or even sext, with these folks. Sometimes the lines between cyberspace and a real place are blurred when "friends" decide on a so-called f2f.

But in iMurders both people don't necessarily have to agree… when one of Sandra Wilson's (Terri Colombino) FaceSpace pals decides to exit the chat-room and enter her life, there's more than just dead pixels to contend with. Suddenly, everyone is a suspect in the rash of killings and there's a great cast to draw from: Could it be the psychiatrist? (Charles Durning) The loathsome lothario? (William Forsythe). The earnest FBI Agent? (Tony Todd) The scarred beauty? (Gabrielle Anwar). The handsome gentleman? (Billy Dee Williams) Or maybe even Sandra herself?

There's a good movie somewhere in the hidden files of iMurders, but director Robbie Bryan sure couldn't find it. I was semi-intrigued at first (eclectic cast, groovy 60s-mystery style score by Henry "Friday the 13th" Manfredini, contemporary premise), but the lack of pacing and the bland, non-constrasty, totally over-lit picture soon had me zoning out so much so that I had to run the movie back a couple of times just to confirm that I hadn't dozed off (and indeed, NOTHING of note happened).

Even the extras look bad. I don't know what they shot the cast interviews with, but there's an annoying lack of contrast, washed out color, and uninspired presentation. Hate to say it because everyone who made the movie seems very nice… but I've got to call them as I see them. One thing I did like was the alternate ending. Also, the protagonist, Terri Colombino, is very good. She reminds me a lot of Sheri Moon Zombie (or maybe it was just the William Forsythe connection), but with more range.

iMurders might have been a decent timewaster for the Lifetime Channel of some-such, but I just can't recommend a purchase of the DVD… if you can catch it late at night on satellite sometime down the road, then proceed with caution — and remember this review when you update your status to "Bored".
