Gentlemen Prefer Sci-Fi; Ladies Prefer Horror

If a recent survey is any indication, it looks like women are more fond of reading scary stuff than men. A study commissioned by the Association for Canadian Studies, a Montreal-based think-tank, found that 18% of women counted horror and mystery as their favorite genre, compared to just 8% of men.

Overall, men made up the majority of sci-fi, business, and sports readers, while women read more mystery and romance. Men and women equally enjoyed biographies and histories. Association director Jack Jedwab suggested that the seemingly stereotypical results may be more of a result of publisher's marketing than actual reader tastes.
