For the first time since 1997, Halloween landed on a Friday. The effect: horror movies did comparably well, while other movies did not.

The horror spoof "Scary Movie 3" stayed on top on Friday, though it only took in $4.7 million - a 75% drop compared to last Friday. "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" took the #2 spot with a strong $9.6 million in third week out.

"Alien: The Director's Cut", the only major horror movie to open this week (and a remake at that), grossed only $565,000 - putting it outside of the top 10.

Yeah, let's go waste money on seeing a movie that we all own. Why in the hell did they re-release that? I love Alien, but I'm not going to spend that much money for what amounts to one added scene I'm sure.
