Unusual, Even for L.A.
The American Cinematheque will be showing Richard Elfman's films Modern Vampires and Shrunken Heads on Friday, July 17 and Forbidden Zone in Color, Saturday, July 18th. They'll have some interesting guests on the Q&A panels, including Casper Van Dien on Friday, and Matthew Bright on both nights.
"Shrunken Heads and Modern Vampires are my often misunderstood yet dearly cherished bastard children. Both films were originally marketed as straight-ahead horror when released. Modern Vampires was even given art to make it look like a Blade rip-off!" says Elfman. "In fact, both films, shot on lovingly low budgets, were written by Matthew Bright (Freeway) as darkly comic social satires — subtle, twisted humor tinged with dollops of absurd pathos. So take out your garlic and voodoo charms, my friends, tuck your tongues firmly in cheek, and please enjoy these quirky little movies."
