"Chainsaw" Slashes "Bill"; "House" Dead
The Marcus Nispel remake of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" took in $29 million in ticket sales over the weekend. The numbers make it the second biggest October opening in movie history, behind last year's $36 million opening of "Red Dragon". Guys and girls saw TCM in equal numbers, with 75% of the audience under 25 years old. The $29 million more than covers the film's small budget.
Tarantino's tribute to Asian action flicks "Kill Bill Vol. 1" dropped to the #2 slot, bringing in $12.5 million - a 43% drop from last weekend's opening. The poorly reviewed (and, I'm told, unintentionally hilarious) video game spinoff "House of the Dead" fell completely out of the top 10 with a 68% drop in ticket sales over last week to a mere $1.8 million.
