"The Talisman" Chooses A Director

Steven Spielberg's pet project is looking more like a reality. He and Kathleen Kennedy have wanted to make a movie out of the Stephen King/Peter Straub collaborative novel "The Talisman" for almost 20 years. At one point, the novel was to be an ABC miniseries, but it now looks like it will make it to the big screen, thanks to Dreamworks.

The 1984 novel "The Talisman" tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who discovers the existence of a parallel world, which he must travel through in order to save both his mother and his mother's double, the Queen of the Territories.

Vadim Perelman is nearly committed to directing the project. A Russian who learned English at the age of 16, Perelman's first picture "House of Sand and Fog" is already garnering Oscar buzz. "The Talisman" will be his second directorial effort.
