Screamfest Hits Los Angeles
So Cal'ers beware! Screamfest LA is ready to rock the left coast starting this Friday, October 10, through October 9.
The festival kicks off with a Question & Answer session with horrormeister Sam Raimi. The Q&A will be followed by a special screening of "Spider-Man" and "Army of Darkness". Celebrities like John Landis are expected to attend the movie. To top it all off, the night is a charity event to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Saturday, October 11 is Robert McKee's all-day Story Seminar, "an intense one-day seminar on horror writing". Seminar topics include "Horror Story Patterns", "Creating the Horror Protagonist", and "Special Case Analysis: The Treatment of Women in Horror Films". At night, the Laemmle Fairfax will screen "Ghost System", "The Eye", "Tale of Two Sisters", and "The Wisher". Later that night, Fangoria presents a screening of Jorge Olguin's " Sangre Eterna".
Sunday is Shorts Day, with shorts screenings grouped into ""Horror Comedy Shorts", Animated Horror Shorts", "Horror Shorts", and "Student Shorts". Later that night, Wes Craven hosts a special Question & Answer period, followed by "Scream".
Monday features the L.A. premiere of "Malevolence" followed by "Nightstalker" Later on, special effects god Stan Winston hosts a Q&A following a screening of "Wrong Turn". Tuesday's delights include J. T. Petty's "Soft For Digging" and "Mimic 3". Wes Craven fans & vampire lovers get their fill on Wednesday, when both "Dracula II: Ascension" and the world premiere of "Dracula III: Legacy" are shown. A Q&A and autograph session with the cast members follows the movies.
"Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3" is followed by a screening of the 28-minute documentary "The Saw Is Family" on Thursday. A Q&A panel including top make-up artists and director William Butler will answer your questions afterwards. On Friday, Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later" is followed by a DVD release party at Sixty-Six.
On Saturday, October 18, fans can learn the secrets of horror special effects from Gary Tunnecliffe, whose work includes the "Hellraiser" series, "Candyman", and "Blade". Later that night, back-to-back screenings of "Dog Soldiers" and "American Werewolf in London" will be shown. On Sunday, the festival ends with a dinner award ceremony honoring Wes Craven.
