The Dead Next Door

Strange, fun little movie. It's really not very good, but it has a few perks that make it worth watching.

Im sure, as horror fans, we've all seen our share of bad actors. As far as Im concerned, some of these guys are pretty close to Dark Heritage levels of bad. Even Bruce Campbell, who did uncredited voice overs for a couple characters, doesnt seem as great as he should. Sure, he's a million times better than anyone else involved, but that really isnt saying a whole lot.

The strength of this film lies in it's plot. It actually has a really good zombie plot, J.R. Bookwalter actually came with a rare original concept for the sub-genre. Up until the ending it's pretty basic and straight-forward, but the whole deal with the serum was really cool. I wont spoil it by saying any more about it.

For a movie that was advertised, to me at least, as a no-holds-barred gorefest, the blood and guts were somewhat disapointing. They looked great of course, but we rarely got to see any.

When it comes down to it, this is a pretty bad movie. However the plot and a bit of gore make it worth seeing on a rainy night if you have nothing better to do.

6/10

This film is a lot of fun. It forgoes the gritty realism of the first film for over-the-top gore and comedy, with crazy characters and bizarre situations aplenty. The end result is more like some sort of nightmarish comic book come to life than a slasher flick.

I'd like to sincerely thank Elvis_Christ for reccoemending it so often around to forums!

8.5/10
Couldn't have said it better myself. This is my favorite horror flick and I'm glad someone else actually liked it. This film gets WAY to much shit. I dare you to check out Maniac if you haven't already seen it.... #2 on my forever changing favorites list :)

Maybe it's just because I dont watch very many kids movies, but I quite enjoyed this one. Good characters, a few laughs, half-decent plot...I thought it was pretty fun.

Depends on which Maniac you mean...I've seen the really bizarre 1934 Bill Woods movie, but I havent been able to find a copy of the 80's slasher. I'll have to keep an eye out, as Im assuming thats the one you mean.

Yep the 80s slasher. I'd burn you a copy but I've only got it on VHS and can't dub shit at the moment. But let me know if you don't have any luck and I'll burn a friends DVD of it (R0 - so you should be able to play it?)

Finding Neverland

Johnny Depp is a good actor, but this movie was a snore. Evidently the guy that wrote Peter Pan wasn't very interesting. The special effects were alright, but this film just didn't do anything for me...

C-

Date Movie

This was basically one short spoof after another. Some were sort of funny, some weren't at all. In all, this movie was pretty lame with only a few laughs thrown in.

i'm very tough on kids movies ... i have to watch them all so i get pissed when i see a lazy effort.

most of them try to be too hip .. hollywood doesnt understand hip - or very few people there do.

my benchmark for recent kids films are as follows :

Monsters Inc
Toy Story 1
Toy Story 2
A Bugs Life
Shrek
Shrek 2
Ice Age (#1 only)

.. pretty much in that order.

if movies dont measure up to these films i have no time for them ...

very few kids movies make the grade. they're made thinking that kids dont give a shit about quality - just amp up the 'krazy-kooky' action and the kids will eat it up.
they forget that kids are smarter now, and they also forget about the $$$ to be made if the films are also smart enough for adults.
(i dont mean one or 2 'clever' references .. i mean the whole structure of the film)

so yeah ... maybe i unfairly compare everything with my favorites in mind - but it happens naturally - like in any other genre.

for the record .. Hoodwinked was pretty damn close to the class of these films ..

I'm surprised that you don't have The Incredibles or Finding Nemo on that list. Finding Nemo was pretty good, but The Incredibles was one of my favorite movies of last year, especially the Jax Attacks sequence on the special features. I also liked Antz more than A Bug's Life.
