Yeah, VHS is like 3 or 5 bucks but the dvd 'll cost ya $30+. Might be cheaper somewhere, just not the places I go to.

Yeah its out on DVD in Australia. Funny thing was I picked it up for $9 (Aussie dollars) on the weekend, reduced from $25. Hadn't seen it before but it's hard to go wrong for $9. Had I known how much I would enjoy it, I would have gladly paid the full price.

Dark Water [2005]

Meh. Almost fell asleep a couple of times. 2/5

The Fog [2005]

Complete trash. 1/5

The Da Vinci Code

Although not my cup of tea, it was a very well done flick. 4/5

X-Men: The Last Stand

Do not worry, this is a 100% spoiler free review...which is much harder than you'd think.

I'm a big fan of the X-Men in their various incarnations, be it the various cartoons, video games, comic books or, obviously, films. Though this doesn't quite live up to the first film, I think it easily surpasses #2, and I'm completely baffled by the people who've been saying it's the worst in the series.

I'll admit that I was a bit worried at first. The opening seemed really forced and the actors didn't seem as enthusiastic as they have been in the past films. However my mind was quickly changed after a huge shocker right off the bat. As promised , this review is spoiler free...but wow. Those of you who've seen the movie know what I'm talking about.

As I mentioned, the actors didn't seem as into their parts as they were in the previous installments. Once the film got on track however, this was mostly rectified. The only problem character-wise that lasted throughout the film was Wolverine. Until now, Hugh Jackman seemed born to play the role, and he pulled it off perfectly in the first two. Always on edge, blunt, sarcastic and almost feral. Here however, he seems much to sensitive. Perhaps this is more to blame on the writing, I suppose, but one scene in particular stands out that was totally out of character for him. Once again, spoiler free. Famke Janssen was dead-on as Phoenix, and made the character very cool.

The plot was handled great. I was a little afraid that a plot about a cure for "mutancy" would turn into a preachy mess, and although it does start out that way a balance is quickly found. The ending is pretty awesome as well, but if you don't want to groan Id avoid the scene after the credits.

The effects were incredible, as can be expected from any film with this kind of budget. Everyone bad mouths CGI, but damn does it look awesome when used well.

The new characters were great for the most part. I really liked the major characters of Magneto's Brotherhood: Juggernaut, Calisto and Spyke being the stand out new members. Pyro was as cool as ever, though I'd like to have seen a bit more of him. I was a little disappointed in the Omega Red cameo...the main thing he had going for him in the past was his kick-ass costume, take that away like they did here and he isn't all that great.

After it's all said and done, this is a great addition to a great series. It cant live up to #1, but it easily beats out X-2.

8.5/10

Yeah, I still think the first one was it...all of them had their moments, all of them were "good" films, but the first one was it.

Merlin's Apprentice with Sam Neill
So Sam Neill was in ANOTHER Merlin film?...I mean, surely you can't be talking about "Merlin" the tv-movie/miniseries made about 8 years ago? 'cos that there was excellent, great score, brilliant effects and one of the best Merlin related stories ever.
So...assuming your taste doesn't completely suck, I have to say that this must've been a sequel or something?...and they fucked it up, huh?

How they even managed to get the name on this all but completely unrelated peice of shit is beyond me. Did you catch the superimposed military vehicles at the beggining? The acting is so bad...there's kinda ONE good idea in the film (the evolved zombie thing at the beggining), but that in itself was poorly executed. I think they made this film for about $20.

Yeh it does. But I'm not really into the whole fantasy thing.

Yeh I did catch that shit  terrible stuff.... and this is coming from a guy that loves trashy garbage flicks. It must've cost them a bit of cash to use the DOTD name too. I guess it fooled a few more people to into renting it. Thank fuck I didn't buy it!
