Scary Movie 4- 2.5/5
This series is really falling below the radar. They're starting to spoof non-horror movies and the pop culture spoofs come into play way too much. Hell, I feel that I'm being generous and nice just to give SM4 2 and a half stars out of 5. I feel that the most it should get is a two. But, I was/am nice enough to give it the slight 2.5/5. That's not much positivitey towards the film, but it's still being nice. I'll admit that I laughed my ass off at the Saw spoofs (especially in the beginning when Dr. Phil is insulting himself). Empire Records- 1/5 Lame-brain rip-off of Clerks, and not in a good way, obviously. I didn't find mostly any humor whatsoever in here. I might've chuckled a few times and might have had a slight (and I mean slight) smile on my face, but that's about it. Just leave this one down at the bottom of the cheapie bin. |

Blankman- 2.5/5
My problem with Blankman was that it was smart and dumb at the same time. It was smart because Damon Wayans played Daryll, who was a nerdy scientist who was, of course, smart. It was dumb because the whole plot and Blankman character was dumb. This didn't mix too well for me. I would've given this one a three if they fixed there altercations between smart and dumb. I guess I'll have to wait just a little bit longer to get out of my bad-movie slump. BTW- I did watch Anchorman twice and The 40-Year-Old Virgin since I'm in such a slump, but I'm not going to say they broke up the slump. |

Tormented
Though poorly executed at times, this is a very cool ghost story. It centers around Tom Stewart, a jazz pianist who breaks up with his mistress, Vi, only days before his wedding to another woman. Vi falls off a lighthouse, and though Tom could save her, he decides not to. Her last words were something to the effect of "If I cant have you, nobody can!". Does she live up to her promise? Or is it all in Tom's guilt-ridden head? The acting and effects are above average for this kind of film, though they still arent all that great. Richard Carlson is great as the "Tormented" leading man, and Juli Reding does a good job as his dead lover, but the rest of the cast leaves something to be desired. The scenes when she apears all looked very good, much better than similar effects from that time. The rest of the effects, such as her disembodied head, looked pretty bad. As mentioned, the plot is the high point of the film. Tom grows more guilty and less sane by the minute, and Carlson handles it very well. Im sure audiences were surprised by the ending 40 some years ago when this was released, but todays audiences could see it coming a mile away. That isnt to say that it's not a cool ending, but very predictable. The score, partially stolen from the original House on Haunted Hill, works nicely throughout. Overall, I say check this out if you're into old-school haunting movies. 7.5/10
