Wolf Creek
Real nice Aussie flick with a raw TCM sort of a feel to it. The acting was fine but the thicker Australian accents can be tough to understand without the subtitles on. The violence looked raw and real some of the shit that happens is downright brutal! It's supposedly based on a true story but we all know how much that means and being that it's Australian, I have no idea what the real story is. Anyways, this "true story" followed a fairly straightforward horror plot (Teens stranded in middle of nowhere & terrorized) but had a couple nice touches of their own as well. All in all, I thought the gore was great, the acting and direction were also good and the overall scare value of this film is higher than most in the genre in terms of keeping you on edge. (Like High Tension sorta in that respect...) Anyways, all in all I really liked it. There's some crazy Aussies out there! A-

V for Vendetta.
A job well done on the update/adaptation...I didn't like the story quite enough to add it to my collection, but it's a pretty decent movie. Nice score, solid acting...nothing bad to say about it really, but there's definately other vertigo titles I'd like to see on film more.

The recent thread put this in my head...so I just watched:
Eraserhead Have you ever had the kind of nightmare where nothing particularly scary happens, yet for some reason you're still terrified? The kind of nightmare where nothing seems to make sence, yet in a strange kind of way it almost does? David Lynch has obviously had that kind of nightmare, and he has captured it in this truely surreal and strange film. Though seldom used, there are some very good special effects in the film, the "baby" being the most obvious and most disturbing. The directing by Mr. Lynch is truely amazing: the stark black and white, the dismal look of the city, and on top of all that, he brought out some amazing performances from the cast. Nance was great in the lead; he almost made you feel sorry for him, but not quite. Which I think was Lynch's purpose. Underneath all the beautiful and bizarre images however, Lynch hides messages that are still imporant in todays culture. He touches on topics like fatherhood, suicide, adultery, not to mention the overall state of the world. This is a great film, though I think it must be watched atleast twice for the full effect. 9/10
