Alky...I loved the jacket, you down with it?
I watched Unleashed, for the second time. I think I enjoyed it even more this time around. Solid but not overly complex characters, nice back story...good storyline flow. I was also very impressed by the musical score, all done by massive attack, it's close to a perfect score IMO....so well suited in every scene. Action scenes...if you liked the stuff in romeo must die, kill bill, the transporter...throw that all together with some John Wu, and this is what you get. Some of the most hardcore, CRAZY chunky fight scenes and amazing stunts I've ever seen Jet Li perform in film...another area of the film that's damn near perfect. It's a little sad, scary and brutal at times, overall a great watch. I'd highly reccomend it. |

28 Days Later, which is overpraised rubbish.
Using the survivors-meet-up-and-go-shopping state of affairs, it held no surprises and was blighted by the trendy quickfire edits and CGI that plague modern movies of this ilk. Danny Boyle will never come close to the heights he reached with Trainspotting.

City of the Living Dead
Some good gore but pretty ho-hum throughout. I liked it but I think I had higher expectations. |

Some nice foggy amosphere in COTLD, and it's loaded with good bits - the maggot shower (witness the real revulsion of the actors), the head-scrunching, intestine-puking and infamous head-drilling, and a very cool slow soundtrack to boot.

Shallow Grave is my favorite of the bunch.. it is a funny thing how the uk folks are so much harder on their own films and praise american films we dont like as much ... and vise versa happens as well. |

There's an irritating trend of selling British films (at home and abroad) through stereotyping, hence bright red phone boxes and London buses, "evenin' all!" flatfooted bobbies on the beat, gor-blimey exaggirated accents and an overall sense of downright falseness... guess this is why Hollywood is denounced as such a fake, fantasy-land by down-to-earth Americans.
But it's understandable why some British films are a hit over the water, since even if our quaint humour isn't present :D Yanks are probably just pleased to see a production without the usual big and booming Tinseltown aura around it.
