I mean what IF he did step to the side, nothing would happen and he would still be alive. But scince he never we got the joy of whatching him get shishcabobbed.

Probably signifying the end of the usually dead straight Dirty Harry series, but at the same time watching in awe at this minature motor bouncing over the streets of San Francisco in hot pursuit of Clint was great fun. |

I see no problem with that scene in "The Omen" at all. You just have to get into the film and think. He is a holy man faced with the ultimate enemy, the coming apocalypse, he has lived in dread and fear for years. He knows what is happening when the storm lashes him. And when he finds that even his church offers no sanctuary he is simply rooted to the spot, not just much in fear, but in defiant resignation. He knows it's over. He knows he has been caught outside of the protective lifestyle he has led by taking the risk to warn Peck. If he had stepped aside then lighting would have hit the brickwork where he moved to and crushed him...or whatever! The film spends all it' time SHOWING you that your fate is determined when you are marked. And that will never change until the very end of the final film with the destruction of Damian. One of THE best horror films ever made. |

I have to agree with freak here. a common theme in many movies is that fate is set. if he had moved away from that falling vane, SOMETHING would have impaled him. Prophecy in movies almost always sits right on the line wetween fate and self-fulfillment.
In other words, in a movie, even if the person knows something is going to happen, and takes steps to avoid it, those steps invariably are the ones that lead to the prophesied(sp?) events.
