I don't twist myself into anything. It's effortless. Milk was just as talked about as The Wrestler, and just as over-hyped as Mickey Rourke's great "comeback". It's been weeks and weeks of all tabloids, gossip websites, news websites, etc... talking about the race for best actor between Rourke and Penn.

Please inform as to which rock you live under so I may shield myself next time. ;)

i loved rourke in the wrestler but penn was amazing in MILK and in many ways this was a much braver performance for a straight man and an incredibly deep and layered portrayal.

i'm not putting rourke's performance down - it is just a pity that two great actors happened to be in the same year.

overall, i thought the oscars were fair and just about right on (and thank god benjamin buttons didn't sweep).

I've seen Milk, and as I said, I'm disappointed Rourke didn't win. I thought he gave the better performance out of the two. Not only that, but I don't think Penn was any better than Brolin, which, don't get me wrong, were two great performances. They just weren't up there with Rourke, in my opinion.

Same here, in case I didn't make that clear.

I saw both Milk and The Wrestler, and I think Rourke's performance was better.

Slumdog Millionaire sure did rack most of the Oscars up last night. And I'm not irate by that all--Slumdog Millionaire was a great film, and screenplay.

Most of my favorites got nominations and a few awards (MILK, Frost-Nixon, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Slumdog Millionaire, and The Wrestler)
I was a little disappointed Frost-Nixon didnt win any awards at all--correct me if I'm wrong guys but I didn't recall it did. I haven't seen The Wrestler yet, but I've read tons of reviews and I'm sure Rourke did a great job--not sure if he does one as masterfully as the hype about it has been though. Anyway, I predicted because of such hype Rourke would win and if not Sean Penn--and I was right. I was kinding hoping that Rourke wouldn't win--nothing against him, but my fear was that he would win solely because of the hype--and not because of how phenomenal his performance was. I do commend him for his comeback and wish the best of him and his caree though.

I thought the best actor nominations though this year had worthy competition and when analyzing it--it could've gone either way. Pitt, Penn, Rourke, et al are all excellent in their own right.

I'm glad Kate Winslet finally got an Oscar and was a little disappointed by the 1997 oscars that she and Leonardo Dicaprio didn't dominate with Titanic as expected. The Reader was good, but I also would've liked it if she got another one for another favorite of mine: Revolutionary Road--it certainkly didn't have the budget or ostentation as Titanic, but Decaprio and Winlset were in my opinon, excellent in this as well.

Another shocker to me for the action category. Will SMith is a good actor as well and has made a reputaution for having summer block-buster hits. If Seven Pounds didn't do as well, I thought certainly Hancock would give The Dark Knight some competition on the action category.

I will say though , I am glad Valkerie didn't receive any nominations.:D I did not like this movie. I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan--and nothing against his abilities, but I don't think the film itself had any substance. It kinda left me with a "Okay....so what [else] ?" effect. You guys may disagree, but hey it's cool. What do you guys think?

I agree with this. I think Ledger deserved it for Brokeback Mountain, for those same reasons. And I don't know, maybe I'm wrong because I'm not a big Batman fan, [at least since the 2005 remakes started] and I haven't completely seen The Dark Knight, but I think his Brokeback Mountain performance was way better than his in The Dark Knight. Or perhaps, its because I have a bias for the particular genre Ledger was in during Brokeback Mountain.

Perhaps its just me, but I haven't heard much "hype" regarding the wrestler at all. Most people I ask about say they haven't seen/haven't heard about it, however I did leave the US while it was only out it select theaters.

another thing that disappointed me about this years Oscars is that Springsteen's brilliant song he did for the wrestler didn't get a nomination, whilst that garbage song from Slumdog won.
