Blair Witch ...

did i like it .. not really ..
did i find it effective .... yes in part

The real problem with this film is that for some god unknown reason the media grabbed ahold of it and made it the flavour of the month so people flooded the theatres to see it ... some perpetuating the hype (because a few liked it and most are sheep that go with the popular flow).

a larger amount of people didnt like it because
a) they are horror fans and are used to low budget back yard movies so didnt see anything special about this one except for the inexplicable popularity.
b) they arent horror fans and just went to see it because they follow every trend. - like passion of the christ.

i dont think it has to be praised but it also didnt make me hate it ... i just took it for what it was and on that level it was ok..

i'm gonna have to disagree ... most people not into horror films (that i know) hated it..

I'd say - it's a horror film for people who follow media hype reguardless of what the film is about.

i'll use the 'passion' example time and time again .. it was the same damn thing ...

You think without the bullshit controversy 1/100 of the people who saw that film would normally go see a religous film ?
it aint Cecil B DeMille time .. those days are gone ..

The media will dictate to the sheep what to see. And they'll see it, and bitch about it later.

I Think The Blair Witch Project pisses people off because it is so different to what they are used to in terms of cinematic entertainment.

Many horror fans don't like it due to its unconventional structure and style, and the casual multiplex-goer is unable to suspend their disbelief enough to let the film seep into their bones where it becomes monstrously effective on an unrivalled level.

The best horror film of the 90's - I was rigid throughout (oo-er..!).

There were some people who thought it was really scary. There were a lot more people who thought it was stupid. A really good movie plants a thought in your head. An example would be watching a show about a killer who attacks his victims in the shower. Now, you could walk away thinking, "That was the dumbest thing I ever watched." However, when you shower, you get all freaked out and have to keep looking outside of the shower curtain to make sure you are alone. The BWP was not very relatable. It is not like it's going to happen to people. Relatability is scary.
