Director: "The film is super-scary." How this scary when I know what happen most times?

Welp. We're down to the wire. Release date is Friday. I'm really torn going to see it. I love goin' to the movies, and I love the original Poltergeist. But remaaaaaakes
I think I'll wait and see how it fairs in the reviews. If it does well, I'll give it a shot. Yes, I like this plan. *bides my time*

You don't trust remakes with incredible producers but you trust reviews... How where the reviews on Wolfcop? 5.5 out of 10 on IMDB based on 2000 reviews. Im just saying, support the genre and go check it out regardless, it couldn't be as bad as Paranormal Activity. For me, I was caught at Sam Raimi...

A couple of reviews for Poltergeist was released today, and they're actually not that bad. They said it obviously doesn't improve on the original, but it modernizes it well, and there are a couple of good scares.

And Jake, how exactly is PA bad (and don't say "nothing happens"; that's a cop out)?

{EDIT}

2 positive and 1 negative on RT. That's surprising.

No cop outs my good man. I was just bored with it, I was in highschool when the Blair Witch Project came out and I very much remember all the hype behind that. I was so pumped up to go and see it in the theater and had the same reaction when it ended... "What the fuck was that?" My problem is in the first movie there was very little depth. At least with Blair Witch there was a boat load of back story before the movie came out that made it interesting. With PA it was just so abrupt. There where some decent scares and whatnot, but there just wasn't any content. It also kills me that they have been able to rehash the movie five times basically re-filming it with different name and making millions of dollars off of it.

As I always say though, to each their own. PA just wasn't my thing. For the most part found footage isn't my thing. Not that I haven't seen some decent ones but you just cant do the things that are key to me in building a really scary movie as found footage. I need to care about people before you torture and kill them, and you cant really build a character in found footage because your being dropped into a moment in their lives.

I didn't say I necessarily trust reviews. I trust revieweRs. As in if the fans of the original think that they did a decent homage, then I approve. I'm not wasting my money on a bad remake. And incredible producers is an opinion, not fact. Not to dis you, Jake, but I've seen many greats fall in movie making. I try not to put all my faith in anything anymore.

As for Wolfcop... You don't know me well, my friend. I have no limitations when it comes to werewolves. They are my everything and I have watched and bought plenty of bad shit out of the heat of the moment for that fandom. I don't exactly have a level head for my lycanthropes like I do the classics, because I WANT to support anything werewolf. It encourages the people to keep making things for them. It's a genre all it's own, where as a classic should most times just remain as such, before it's butchered in a remake.

However, speaking of remakes, I believe after watching Nostalgia Critic's review for Micheal Bay's TMNT bullshit, I think I've become less anal about it. Remakes are support in their own way, and just another version of it. That's what I keep trying to tell myself, but old habits die hard.

I can understand not wanting to waist money, that's why I see all of my movies matinee style. Cant beat $5 for a movie, good or bad. Personally I enjoyed the new Turtles. I consider myself an old school turtles fan, I still own all of the VHS tapes including the ones Burger King was giving out as exclusives. Regardless, I am 100% capable of ignoring that there was an original and accepting any movie, remake or not, as an original movie. It makes them much easier to watch when you don't compare every aspect to what you loved about the original.

Fair enough. We obviously have different tastes. I personally enjoy slower movies like PA because I like the subtlety of it.

Anyway, the reviews for Poltergeist aren't wretched. The average score for it on RT is 5.8 or something like that, which isn't bad at all for a horror movie. I'm still not too convinced that it'll be the next great horror remake though.
