PAPER MOON (1973). Not as groundbreaking as back then, but wonderful B/W cinema photography by Lazlo Kovacs and a good supporting cast including Madeline Kahn, Randy Quaid, John Hillman and Art Ellison, who was the Minister in CARNIVAL OF SOULS. ***

I bought the DVD. There was one time I really liked something about it. Now I don't know what that was.

This is another comedy slasher from the 1980s that has plenty of humorous drama, dialogue, and action as most comedy slashers from the 1980s do, in similar ways. I don't know why I had never seen or heard of this before until recently, but I'm glad I finally did. It is just as equally entertaining as most along with being original and interesting as well. This one is about a campground opening up for the first time, only to have weird things happening even before its grand opening, like the water being contaminated due to a murdered dog being thrown into the well and a wild caveman who is not people friendly running through those woods who they can not catch or stop. They decide to open the camp grounds anyway, wanting the money, and not mentioning those other things going on. People then start getting killed off by that wild caveman who nobody is able to catch or stop. The camp ranger, however, had his son kidnapped 17 years earlier, who the police never recovered, and believes that wild caveman might actually be his lost son, and continues to pursue looking for where that caveman lives, hoping to finally recover his long lost son. There is a real sad ending to where you can feel sorry for the killer, only I won't get into any more detail, to avoid any real spoilers for those who have not yet seen this one. It is recommended for those who like the many different comedy slashers from the 1980s.

MAGNUM FORCE (1973). Second, and by far the most violent, in the DIRTY HARRY films and Clint Eastwood is as badass as ever. Many of the cities worst criminals are being executed-and this is bad how?- and the question is by Who? OK turns by Hal Holbrook and Mitchell Ryan, but a lot of actors here in early roles like Felton Perry (THE TOWERING INFERNO, nice and cool as can be when we met him at CHILLER), Tim Matheson (NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE), Robert Urich (VEGAS), Kip Niven and Suzanne Somers! ***1/2

This is an Italian horror film from 1989, directed by the now late Umberto Lenzi, under a different name. It is not nearly as scary or gory as his classics "Eyeball" and "Eaten Alive," but it is overall well done. An abandoned house believed to be haunted by the ghost of a little girl who died in that house gets investigated by a radio DJ and his friends after his station receives weird messages traced back to that house. They encounter a crazy hitch hiker along the way who likes to pull pranks and complain about how everything sucks. They also encounter a drunk bum who tells them they need to go if they don't want to get killed. It gets more interesting as it goes along when the drunk bum gets crazier and actually does start killing, but there is also a ghost haunting the place, wanting vengeance about something at the same time. The action, blood, gore, props, and make up are overall well done. The drama and dialogue are also well done to develop the characters, plot, and story overall well, too. Those who like the cult classics from Umberto Lenzi, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, and Mario Bava should find this one worth a look.

AND NOW THE SCREAMING STARTS! (1973). Really enjoy the Amicus Anthologies, but this single story film drags into tedium quick and never veers from that course. Great production values and performers I like (Peter Cushing, Stephanie Beacham, Herbert Lom and Patrick Magee), but story not strong enough to endure for 90 minutes. **

Starz Encore showed this one again out where I live, and it is even scarier and more amazing than I remembered it. This is also the only horror film I have seen Gregory Hines in. It is about a Native American tribe in New York City who turns into not werewolves, but regular wolves, after performing a certain ritual. After they turn into wolves, they prey and feast on those who will not be missed after they disappear, with a lot of the many people who disappeared and were never recovered turning out be victims of that tribe. It is overall scary and well done, especially with the scenes shown through the wolves' eyes looking very amazing and intense. Gregory Hines also did a great entertaining performance like he normally did in his career. This is not a werewolf movie, but even better, scarier, and more believable than a lot of the werewolf movies.

AMAZON WOMEN ON THE MOON (1987). Very similar to 1977's KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE, AWOTM plays like an old UHF channel which usually showed the damndest things late at night with wild commercials as well. The title is being shown as the late night movie (many similarities to QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE and CAT WOMEN OF THE MOON) and during "Technical Difficulties", said wild commercials and short spots fill the space until the film is ready to roll again. A lot of hit or miss, but some truly funny parts (The Funeral "Roast". The PETHOUSE model and Lou Jacobi experiencing a whole new level of interaction) and an incredible cast...SO MANY performers I like. ***

I watched My Bloody Valentine, Black Christmas, than Wes Craven's Chiller those are the last three i saw back to back and right now I'm watching The Prowler..... yup one of those slasherthons....
