Watch it. You have no choice and I won't like you if you don't. As a matter of fact no one will like you soooo you better watch it. :D It's amazing, look up the other thread about it if you must for extra reviews.
((edit: whoa I just got really confused and thought maybe I was hallucinating this guy making a new thread for this when it got merged. Way to make me think I was insane.))

I don't get when people say the ending is sad. My girlfriend and I did cry together, but it was out of joy.

The atmosphere was really harsh. It makes Sweden look pretty hellish. Then again, there's a very high suicide rate out there and a high rate of seasonal affective, too.

I can see why they thought so. The very end I mean. Swimming pool scene was a tear jerker because it was just plain awesome. The bit in the train was sad though to me.

There's very few aspects of horror but I think it's one of the most romantic, sweet and innocent films ever made!:)

What's great about the end, though, is the whole "the lady or the tiger" aspect. You are free to choose whether or not this is a happy ending:
A. Eli truly cares for Oskar and wants to spend the rest of his life with him for no other reason. B. Eli is using Oskar because she needs someone to take care of her; Oskar is filling Hakan's role. At any rate, the whole film is great, but from the beginning of the pool scene to the end credits is truly virtuosic filmmaking.
