Eating healthy or organic doesn't have to mean low fat or sugar free.

We buy organic whenever we can - fruit & vegetables, meat, milk, pantry items, etc.

But never buy "low fat" or "sugar free" variants. Personally, I would rather eat natural sugar than artificial sweeteners. And "low fat" products tend to lack taste and often have other artificial ingredients added.

What I only rarely eat is take-away or junk food.

I would rather spend a bit of time and make a good, natural meal than buy McDonalds or KFC.

Try to eat low fat stuff for meals (chicken, fish, turkey, pork and vegies) and snack on fruits and vegies all day long. Eat at least three bananas a day; they're my candy bars. And coffee, black, morning, noon and night. Also diet Pepsi inbetween cups.:)

I'm really considering going organic for a lot of reasons, but it's insane how much more expensive certain items are. Maybe one day soon I'll be able to swing an all organic lifestyle but for now I just try to stick to a lower fat higher fiber diet. I've noticed that most things that are actually considered "diet" foods make me gain weight in the long run (It seems weird I've put on like 20 pounds drinking diet cokes in place of regular) so I keep away from those as much as I can.

MARROE! I haven't seen you here in...forever! Great to have you back.

Organic is good but yeh, the prices are annoyingly high. That's my main hang up with it.

Damn straight. It's not really even a dietary thing in my case...I just like fresh, better produce, the benefit of having less chemicals is cool on top of that.

"Low fat" equivalents, and "sugar free" equivalents...shit, just don't eat the stuff if it's bad, or eat more good stuff with it. Diet is more about ratio than gimmicks like these things on sale.

I buy some organic, some conventionally grown stuff.
Organic is only really better on account of less "bullshit" being used in the growing process.
Usually it tastes slightly better on account of this.
I shop organic, not so much for health reasons...it's simply because more of the vegetables/fruits meet my quality expectations, they look, smell, and feel way better than stuff I'd pick up at a shopping centre.
If expense is a problem - try to find a local organic market, we have one here every week - the farmers sell direct and the stuff ends up cheaper, or the same as the crap stuff you'd find in the supermarkets.

I eat lots of green leaves - buy a nice salad mix from the organic markets that takes care of that.

Ginger, cooked, raw, in tea/coffee...I love it, and it's meant to be an anti-cancer, blood pressure lowering superfood.

Legumes - predominately just green beans and butter beans. I eat 'em raw.

Wholegrains - less sugar, more of the good stuff left in. Wholegrain/rye "crackers" are good for this too.

Chilli, hot chilli (peppers, yes?) Keeps the digestive tract healthy, also an anti-cancer thing.

Naturally oily fish, like salmon. Not TOO cooked. Full of omega, helps.

Mushrooms.

Garlic - vitamin-y, and also reputed to clear off heart valve congestion.

Raw spinach, or lightly stirfried.

No soda/carbonated sugary beverages.

Green tea with jasmine - the good stuff of tea, without much of the bad stuff.

Lots of water.

Walnuts.

There are also buttere-equivalents that lower cholesterol absorbtion, I use them occasionally too.

Cut the fat off your steaks...etc...you can live with it.
