Things are hotting up on project Green Lantern, and Spoiler TV have picked up an interesting casting call which, obviously, reveals a few of the characters that will joining Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan.

First up is Carol Ferris, described as "female lead, 26-32... a smart and attractive woman with an MBA, she started as a pilot and now runs Ferris Aircraft. She is a workaholic..." In the comics, Jordan went to work for Ferris as a test pilot, and romance blossomed among the aerospace components. No indication here though that Ferris' stint as supervillainess Star Sapphire is on the cards. Maybe that's being saved for sequels.

Next up is Dr Hector Hammond, who requires "character actor, 27-35". The press released describes him as "austere and impersonal, real scummy, a pathologist and also the son of a senator." We love real scummy... The comics Hector Hammond is a wealthy villain who can control minds using some meteor fragments he once stumbled across in the woods.

Third call is for a Sinestro: "mid-30s to mid-40s, smart, tough, intimidating and in great physical shape." No surprise here, really, since Sinestro is one of the biggest villains in the Green Lantern canon. He's a rogue Lantern who used his ring of power for evil, rather than good, and got himself banished to an antimatter universe. There he got himself a yellow ring, which causes all manner of problems for the entire Green Lantern Corps when he gets back to the Universe proper, because, er, yellow is impervious to Green Lantern-ness (Frank Miller has a lot of fun with that in his All-Star Batman and Robin series). He later creates the Sinestro Corps, leading to a major green vs yellow war.

And finally, they are looking for Abin Sur, described simply as "mid-30s to mid-40s, he is a great warrior". According to the comics, he's also an alien history professor from the planet Ungara, and the member of the Green Lantern Corps that recruits Hal Jordan. That'll be the mentor role then.

So, two villains (possibly three), a love interest and a Ben Kenobi. What's the storyline? Your guess is as good as mine.

In the script Carol doesn't become a Star Sapphire. I'm really hoping the things from the script that change most are the ending and maybe throwing Atrocitus into the mix.

If this new rumor indeed pans out, then actor Jackie Earle Haley has just become the go-to-guy for DC's live-action comic book adaptations.

Ain't It Cool News reports that a source within the production of Green Lantern has disclosed that Haley is the leading candidate to play the villainous Sinestro in Warner's forthcoming movie.

Haley is best known to fanboys for playing Rorschach in Watchmen and for his supporting role in the TV series Human Target, both of which are based on DC titles. Haley will soon be seen as the new Freddy Krueger in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

AICN also adds that it's heard that, in an attempt by DC and Warner to take a page from Marvel's cross-over playbook, Superman will indeed have a cameo in the Green Lantern movie as has been previously rumored.

Jackie's a fine actor and all, but I don't see it not looking awkward.

Hal Jordan and Sinestro. But Haley is 5'5" and Reynolds is at least 6'1"

Bottom line: Jackie Earle Haley doesn't know if he's going to play the villainous Sinestro in Green Lantern, as had been rumored over the weekend.

In a red carpet chat with Collider at this past weekend's Spike TV's 2009 Scream Awards, Haley said the casting rumor was news to him and that he had not screen-tested for the role.

Haley didn't rule out that such an opportunity might arise in the future, but he said that as of now it's merely a rumor that he'd just heard about moments before during another interview.

It should be noted that Haley's casting as Freddy Krueger in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street began largely the same way: as an Internet rumor that he hadn't heard about which ultimately came true. So who knows? Maybe Sinestro will go the same way.

Ryan Reynolds is gearing up for the role of his life when he takes on Green Lantern, DC and Warner Bros.' next big superhero picture. The actor recently spoke to MTV about the project as well as his involvement in the Wolverine spin-off Deadpool.

For starters, Reynolds says that he's seen the GL suit -- and he's psyched.

"Seeing the prototypes for the Green Lantern costumes was a huge moment," he says. "It was a moment when I was like, 'This is happening, and it's happening in the right way.' That's a pretty cool, definitive moment for me."

He also says that he wasn't hugely familiar with the character prior to becoming aware of the film project.

"I've known about Green Lantern my whole life, but I've never really followed it before," he says. "I fell in love with the character when I met with [director] Martin Campbell. When I sat down with him, I really got what it is that this guy is all about. When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has ba--s of titanium, and the other part is that he's slightly crazy, and you have to be to take on something with the scope of Green Lantern."

Reynolds has also been taking meetings lately with prospective writers of the proposed Deadpool movie.

"Everyone is always looking for that one line, 'What is that character?' and for me it's kind of like, 'There's a guy, and he's in a highly militarized comedic fame spiral,'" the actor explains. "That's not an easy thing to write -- an entire screenplay, let alone a franchise. I had a blast playing Wade [in Wolverine]. Every line I had in that was stuff I thought he would say. It wasn't something that a writer said to me. It was fun to really create that character, including everything he spits out of his awful mouth."

Ryan Reynolds is talking once again about his upcoming turn as Hal Jordan, the titular hero in Warner Bros. and DC's Green Lantern movie, and the latest he has to say might make some fans happy.

It seems that the film will be more than your typical first-movie origin tale, which is perhaps too often the way superhero movies start off.

While discussing the project with MTV, the actor "shied away" from calling the film a full-on origin story.

"It is [an origin story] to a certain degree, but it's not a labored origin story, where the movie [truly] begins in the third act," he tells the site. "The movie starts when it starts. We find out Hal is the guy fairly early on, and the adventure begins."

Reynolds also compares GL to Marvel's Iron Man film.

"I think you walk away from this first film, and the moments that you remember and the moments that mean so much to you, not unlike Iron Man, are the moments where the guy's not in the suit," says the actor.

Green Lantern will start shooting next year.

I think a 10-minute prologue should take place based on Alan Moore's story about Abin Sur meeting Qull of the Five Inversions.

Basically, the Five Inversions (One of which is Atroicuts, leader of the Red Lanterns) were the five surviving members of the Manhunters massacre on Space Sector 666, they swore to get revenge on the Oans and formed the Empire of Tears which three galaxies. Eventually they got into battle with the Oans on the Empire's capital, Ysmault, and were crucified and melded with the machinery on the planet. It was off limits to all Green Lanterns.

After a few eons of going undisturbed an Ungaran ship crashed on Ysmault and Abin Sur was sent to rescue the survivors. Being unable to find the ship, Abin went to the Five Inversions, they all demanded he free them first, except for Qull who simply agreed to answer three questions for nothing in return. He told Abin where to find the one child that survived the crash. The second question was how he would die, Qull told him that at some point in time his ring would fail him at a crucial moment and would be his death. The third question was what the greatest tragedy to befall the Green Lanterns would be, Qull told him it would be when all of the Green Lanterns' enemies rise up and join forces.

Abin Sur says that he's not scared but afterward instead flies in a ship and constantly recharges his ring. This lead to his crash on Earth, his ship failed him and he passed through yellow radiation he would have detected if he had been using his ring and not flying the ship. Thus he fell to Earth. The Five Inversions laughed for nineteen weeks.

Our friends over at Latino Review have been doing a bit of snooping around the production of Ryan Reynolds' superhero flick Green Lantern. And they think they’ve come up with the five female candidates for the Lantern’s high-flying girlfriend, Carol Ferris.

Described in the soon-shooting film script as a demure 27-year-old, the daughter of aerospace entrepreneur Carl Ferris works for Ferris Air, is smart enough to have bagged an MBA, and has been lusting after Hal Jordan (green pants himself) for as long as memory serves.

So who fits the bill?

LR’s sources pulled five names out of the Hollywood hat:
Eva Green, Keri Russell, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Garner.

Strictly A-list, then. No Rachel McAdams (long linked to the Batman franchise, but no dice so far), and the inclusion of Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively surprises.

Though her profile as The CW’s crowning jewel is quickly on the rise, she’s hardly on par with heavyweights Green and Garner. Even Kruger ranks higher, having enjoyed success with this year’s Inglourious Basterds.

So which lucky lady will be smooching with Ryan Reynolds come January? Keep guessing till the official announcement.
