The obvious reason why Ringu scared me and The Ring didn't is I've seen Ringu before really. They're pretty much the same. I don't mind slow paces, but, for a movie to give me nightmares, it needs to contain a lot of scares.

Ringu didn't do anything for me....the volcano bit seemed a bit more forced...althought the samara backstory was a bit more fleshed out in Ringu....
It scared me less, impressed me less, no subliminal quick shots like in the Ring, i love that shit, and the ending TV scene did nothing for me in Ringu....to each his own.... |

I got the Jap ring boxset the other day, watched Ring and thought it was quite good.... I'm going to be optimistic with the other two, as I dont want negatvity I've read about them here, to affect the viewing.
