I guess I'd have to say Twisted Metal Black. It rejuvinated a franchise AND a genre and was one of the greatest (and one of the few) online PS2 games at the time. The story was full of black humor and horrible images while the gameplay was frantic and action packed with plenty of secrets around every corner. I liked Silent Hill a lot but the series has gotten better through sequels while "Black" was the apex of the Twisted Metal franchise.
