I really liked Valentine it was a good homage to the old school slashers without being annoyingly self referential like Scream or a dumbass teenager orientated flick like I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Idi i smotri aka Come and See (1985)

This Russian WWII masterpiece caught my attention when I saw the title on Time Out's recent list of 100 Best Horror Films. I don't like to argue on whether it's actually entitled to tag as a horror film for its magnificent & artistic portrayal of horror of WWII; cause it delivers far more than that.
Go & see it...if you still haven't. It truly deserves its place to any all time greatest list than in a compilation for a particular genre .

I've watched the first three Wishmaster films for the first time over the last few days.

The first two weren't terrible but the third was just...bad. I think it's the actor who plays The Djinn being changed that did it. The guy in the third just isn't menacing at all except for the fact that you know he has powers.

Anywho, I've decided I may wish I had those 90 minutes back one day so I'm not going to bother with the fourth - I just can't bring myself to watch it. So, I'm going to watch The Texas Chainsaw Massacare 2 instead. I've heard it's more deliberately funny like the Evil Dead 2.

I never did get around to watching it last night though!
Oh i love Buffy and Angel but that wasn't enough for me to enjoy that movie.

I should have explained-I want to watch the movie first because nine times out of ten (for me) the movie is worse than the book. If I read the book first I will never like the movie because a movie can never be as in depth or have as much scope and detail as a book. I'd rather give the movie a chance without comparing it to the book. Then when I do read the book I enjoy all the extra information and further explanations much more than I would have done had I read the book first.

The Calling (2000) This fast paced horror mystery thriller set on the Isle Of Man is nothing original but it has the balls to go into much darker and daring territory than more mainstream films of a similar bent (involving satanists and the antichrist) would be prepared to. The lead character is extremely annoying but a supporting role from the always a pleasure to watch, Alice Krige keeps you glued to your seat. More violent and dark hearted than gory but that is fine in this context plus there are some genuinely harrowing scenes involving the antichrist kid. Definitely recommended.
