Bound (1996). This stylish debut from the Wachowski Brothers hinted of film noir with stylish flair. A crime drama with a simple twist, some old school conservatives might find the sexual overtones offensive, but for the rest it was a treat. The acting was solid, with the cast's main trio each giving standout performances. The direction was flat out stupendous, creating a cool atmosphere upon which to paint their wares. The camera work was equally adept, utilizing great slo-mo and POV angles to flaunt its creative muscle. The story was simple, effective , entertaining, and ultimately satisfying. This slick little number gives purchase to the talent that was to become the Matrix trilogy. Merci beaucoup.

Been watching spooky movies to commemorate the Halloween season, ergo spook-athon.

It is old school. Typical late 70s haunted house flick which starts off rather strongly but tapers out towards the end. Very cheesy. Good for a few goosebumps and scares.

Took a break from my Halloween spook-athon last night...

Disappointed.

Loved it, but maybe because of my part-bias of being a huge RE fan.

Fantastic. Too bad it was overshadowed by The Departed back then, because this is right up there with it. I request all of you to watch this at least once.

The Loved Ones (2009)

"Princess Lola" and her father will go to any lengths to get the perfect boy of her dreams... including kidnap and torture!

A nice psycho teen-torture flick from Australia where there's nothing new in the plot but still worth to watch for its decent cast & production values along with some fine camera work. Hammering knife in the foot, trying to make a hole in the skull by a drill machine...yeah there are some well crafted torture scenes that results a good amount of blood & gore as Lola's own Prom Night party progress with some turns of the event till the end. Background scores also fits suitably in different situations...overall, a pretty well done job by the director Sean Byrne on his first full length feature film.

The Secret in Their Eyes (2009). In a word, this movie was sublime. Tragic, moving, believable, comedic, sentimental, and flawless, this flick transcends the viewer into that special place, into the very essence of the characters, blessed with all of their faults, and treats each ticket-holder to the cinematic ride of a lifetime. Every aspect of this film shines, with stellar acting, superb direction and storytelling, colorful characters, competent use of the timeline, and awesome camera work. The soccer scene is one that will elicit the desire to be replayed in order to better comprehend its brilliance. With a tragic though satisfying denouement, this flick stays true to it heart throughout, owning the word passion from the get-go. Merci beaucoup.
