El Topo (1970). This surreal western utilizes religion and occult symbolism and allegory to sum up the paradox of man. The result is a mess of a movie if one were to look at it from a movie goer's perspective. Instead, this flick must be viewed in light of a philosopher's mindset, wildly open to conflicting interpretations. The fatalism of human existence is wonderful, no matter what man sets out to do, he will either be doing it for the wrong reasons or with unintended results. By merely trying, man is bound to fail. And yet, to do nothing is just as disastrous. How nice! With low production values, the film is still a great success, as its convoluted message gets booted out of the closet and into the blinding light of civilization's absurd convictions.

Saints and Soldiers (2003). This low-budget war flick delivers a champagne quality message of war. A character driven story, the cast and their portrayals could not have delivered a better band of would-be heroes. During the throngs of war, what comes into question is what a guy should hold true, be it his patriotism, his camaraderie, his duty, or his humanity, and in very uncertain terms hints that this is no easy question with an even more uncertain answer. What is more, as the flick moves forward, so does the understanding of the soldiers as to their allegiances, if only to call them further into question. The acting was simply awesome and powerful, whose puissance is expressed in subtle gestures. The story, based on true events of WWII, was simple and incredible. The direction and camera all bring into light the cold and bitter field with which our heroes are to exact their ultimate enterprise. Merci beaucoup.

The Tripper (2006). David Arquette has created a carnival of drug hazed carnage in this fun little B horror whose political machinations are as subtle as a race riot. This flick unfairly gets a low rating cuz people just take their political intrigues too seriously, and while the republican right is portrayed in a rather severe light, the liberal hippies are depicted as retarded imbeciles almost deserving their punishment. The acting, especially for a B movie, was decidedly competent. Arquette's direction show that his career should rightfully be found in the director's chair. The story itself was funny, inventive, and wonderfully convoluted without being overdone; and that dialog... The camera was wonderfully dedicated to expressing the fog of a drug bender in the throes of a blood fest. Good clean fun this was, naked granola soaked in blood.

Definitely one of the better zombie movies out there.

The Expendables (2010)

Meh - I was hoping for more. Rourke, Roberts and Zayas were awesome, but the main characters bored the Hell out of me. The least they could have done was throw in a few more action scenes - let's face it, thats what we went to see. The action we get is pretty badass, but there's way too much painfully dull dialogue in between.

I can forgive a lack of plot and character development in a movie like this, just so long as I have something to keep me interested: a snappy script, non-stop action, quirky characters...I didn't get any of this. See Machete instead.

The Girlfriend Experience (2009)

Interesting look at a high-class escort. Not much happens, but the performances were surprisingly strong. Not bad.

Kabluey (2007)

Still don't know what to make of this one. Quirky and original for sure, but every single character is annoying as hell. Very well acted, but I wanted to slap every fucking one of them. Entertaining enough though, and definitely something different.

This is a solid sequal, but it gives us nothing new from the original and it lacks the fear factor the original had. As we already know about the creatures. Still there us some cool scenes to check out and it is a good continuation of the story.

6.5/10

Thanks for the ride lady!

A Haunting in Conecticut. Actually enjoyed this more than I thought. Only watched it as it was lent to me but enjoyed the story. Special effects I thought were a little dodgy though x

Persona (1966)

Another definitive incredible experience for any Bergman movie fan which was meant to be shot in black & white to capture the essence of its obscurity of silence and the everlasting psychological turmoil of a challenging character study. Hats off to the one of the greatest masters in cinema for his undeniable magnificence in movie making.

Bikini Girls on Ice (2009)

In compare to the recent low budget slasher films this one comes with an above average production value. The story follows a simple formula...When a bus-load of women college soccer players get stranded on their way to a bikini car-wash fundraiser, they decide to set-up shop in front of an abandoned gas station on the edge of town. Little do they know the place is the stalking-grounds for a homicidal maniac mechanic named Moe.
Even though you will see everything coming, there are no surprises, the acting is merely passable, the movie still remains fun enough for a view for slasher lovers. But the sad part is...in most of the killings the viewer gets to see is blood being thrown on the walls, there was no direct & straight chopping scene to show the gruesome splatter effect on the victims.
