Knew this one autistic guy, I think it was Raymond.
He was a good driver. Very good driver, yeah.

That said, autism isn't something a whole hell of a lot of people have "gotten over"...so, if you were as a child, you would be now..etc..just to point out.

Like many diseases and Syndromes, Asperger's was named after the guy that fully publicized the same recurring set of symptoms. I, like Forgey, ran into this syndrome often because I ran a disability support office at a university. We had some students with this syndrome. It can make social situations extremely difficult and going to university is full of that. You have a challenge in your life, Dante, but you seem more than able to meet it and succeed. Being aware of your situation is a big help. Many successful people with AS have taken their narrow interest set and built it into a great career.

I have a work colleague who is convinced her son has high functioning autism - but the authorities wont recognise it and at 8 years old her son has been suspended twice from school for unpredictable and violent behaviour towards people. To me, he has all the signs of asperger's - depression, lack of emotion, temper outbursts, focus on certain topics (his gameboy and total and utter obsessive over Dr. Who), doesnt interact with other children because he appears so much older and way more intelligent than them. The colleague is being driven mad by the inefficiency of two psychologists who reviewed her son. Both came to the conclusion that he is simply an over-indulged, spoilt brat!

I have recently given her the contact no. for the National Autistic Society who can offer support groups and a proper diagnostic for him. I think, if she can take these first real steps towards helping herself and her son, then perhaps they can get him into a school that can deal and cope with his behaviour.

Dante - I think there is light at the end of the tunnel for her because, although you have the condition, you are doing everything in your power to lead a untroubled life - joining this forum is a sure sign you are on the right track :D
If someone with the condition is given the right diagnosis and treatment, then there appears to be no reason why they cant lead a fairly normal life.

I congratulate you, sweetie :)

Yeah, they should visit a doctor and a therapist.*That's what i had to do.)But i was OBSESSED i mean OBSESSED with Dinosaurs as a kid.I knew every single thing, every single detail,i had every single book about them.I was also obsessed with wrestling as a kid.And Arnold Schwzrtzenegger.

Yeah,i try my best.I'm doing pretty good so far.I like forums.Because you cant interact with people, and show your true personality. But you dont have to physiclly be around them.Yeah, but i dont think ill lead a complete normal life.Since im not all that normal to begin with.:)

And thank you.

You are welcome, Dante! :) And yes, online forums are a secure way of interacting without the face to face confrontation which I know can be very uncomfortable for you and others who may not wish to understand your condition. You are wonderful, anyway - thats obvious :D

The boy I was talking about did join a local drama group but the children kept making fun of him because he cant keep up with their conversations and when he tries to join in, his perception is different to theirs so he does appear way much older and his high intelligence is beyond their own comprehension. I feel so much for him because, until he is diagnosed with the autism condition, people wont take him or his mum seriously.
I am disgusted that his school didnt even get autistic experienced psychologists in - just general ones who would not know the sure signs of aspergers or autism.
I will try my best to support her, so she finds the motivation to keep working towards a proper diagnosis - once that is cleared up, she can look at the correct schooling for him - with people who will understand him and know how to treat him.

Thank you, Dante - by bringing your condition to our attention, it made me realise that I can help in my little way.
