It is from one of those books. I 99% positive the story it was with was called simply The Haunted House. The collection was titled Scary Stories to Tell In the Dark. I have may fond childhood memories of that book. The stories didnt even scare me as a kid, but DAMN the pics were creepy! Ill try to find some of the other ones...

I cant find any of the really scary ones online, but this was pretty cool:

EDIT - The pic doesnt work here. Go to Amazon.com and type Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Click to go inside the book. You'll find it there, plus the table of contents and the first story [which isnt very good at all].

The pic that has haunted me all these years is from a story called The Thing. The story itself has long left my mind, but that ilustration petrified me. It was in the same style as the others of course, a drawing of some sort of half-dead being...sketal, though it was flesh covered. I would love to find it online to show you guys, I cant explain it at all. Stephen Gammel, the guy that draws these, is a genius IMO.

I agree and mentioned him earlier, I wish I could find some of his art out there but alas, unless it's in the book it doesn't seem to be "out there".

Whoops, missed that post. As far as I can tell, he ilustrated 3 volumes of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Ive only read the first one, but I may need to track down the others, if not solely for his ilustrations.
