If you have seen this movie and liked it. I would like you to tell me why. If you didn't do the same.
If you have never seen this movie it is about a women who is raped several times by perverse red necks and it doesn't hesitate to show women being tortured. That is the whole movie one woman being tortured.
Okay then I shall show you some (SOME) respect and answer you.

WHY is it bad that the director had RAPISTS show no remorse? You will probably find most rapists don't.
And are you seriously telling me that IF the guys had cried real tears and said 'boo hoo, we be sorry', THEN it would have been okay for the director to show the rape afterall??
Really?? Seriously?? Think about that.

if anything that makes the rapists somehow pittiful and tragic and gives them sympathy!!
And are you saying that the rape is now okay in itself because they said 'sorry' after!!?

NO, this movie is not ALL a woman getting abused. The entire second half is actually her getting revenge!

She was a tourist, a pretty woman, in a strange place, an obviously small and close community and she was raped by members of that community.
men who had jobs there, one who had family even.
Exactly how far do you think she would have got if, in this situation, she suddenly cried rape?? Not far!

And if you think that's bullshit then you should learn more about the film's you slag off...The entire film is based on a real life incident where the director and friends came across a naked, beaten and raped girl.
Her treatment at the hands of the local Police is what stuck in his mind and so he later made this film about a raped woman in such a community taking her own revenge.

OF COURSE it still has VERY exploitative moments, but it was a 70's Exploitation film aimed at making as much money back as possible. The story may have been based on a harsh reality...but the film business is just that...a business.
You cater to the market.

But even then you have to show just how nasty and foul the rape was, and just how sickening the people that did it were. And the film does that.
True it perhaps goes on longwer than it needs, but hey...that's Exploitation folks!
This explicit rape also has to be just that, explicit and nasty so the audience REALLY feels good when the guys get it!
The nastier the act, the nastier the villian, the nastier the villian...the more damn fun the punishment is!
Please your audience!

It's brutal, well made Exploitation which, although it always puts the money first, actually does have a crowd pleasing aspect and does in the end show that the victim has become the punisher.
She will never get over the rape..but that was done as sson as she WAS raped. But at least she knows that the guilty have been punished and that she has not had to go through the hell of a Court trial and all the attacks of a different kind that she would have had to endure...and the chnaces are that even after all that, that they would get away with it anyway given the situation.
This way though..she not only sees justice done, but she takes back control from those that took control away from her in the process.

OR...you can ignore all that and just call me a psychopath.

And as for the remark that the director should be thrown into prison, we shall just leave that as it is...the warbling of a child.

Rape is almost as wrong as murder, yet we're all horror movie fans here. It's just a movie dude.

uhhhmmm ... i'm not a rape fan ...

not really a great comparrison..

i think the motivation behind what is being portrayed on film is of issue..

this particular film was trying to make us feel uncomfortable ...
unfortunately it did provoke garbage from chicken fucking inbreds during several screenings of 'get her, get that bitch' ...

and yeah - i have the same feelings towards these geeks as the ones that say the same thing to jason as he's killing people too.
We all dig the fear and anticipation - but i dont cheer when someone's getting slaughtered..

rape is a very real, all too common thing .. it is something that has affected almost everyone either directly or though association...

so far pinhead or freddy or the creature from the black lagoon haven't populated my daily existence so i'm really not affected the same way by these lumbering fantasies.

i am a horror fan because it's fantasy ... i am not a rape fan and i'm uncomfortable seeing it depicted on screen..

that doesnt mean the film shouldnt be made .. but i am sensitive to others points of view .. it could be hitting them on a level thats very real.

I didn't mention Jason and Freddy because that's not what I had in mind. I was thinking more along the lines of King of the Ants, TCM and the like. The only reason rape scenes don't appeal to people as much as those in general are purely cultural.

Death is a universal fear as well, especially if it's at the hands of someone chasing you with a chainsaw or such. Everyone can relate to that.

read this line again :

'rape is a very real, all too common thing .. it is something that has affected almost everyone either directly or though association...'

either someone you know - or someone who knows someone you know - has been raped. I will bet my house on it.
If you dont think a victim or friend of a victim would be affected by it, you're dead wrong.

How is that a cultural thing ??

I know of three people who have been raped and one who have been murdered. The three people who have been raped currently live their lives. Can't say that much about the person who died. Call me stupid but I don't think rape is worse than murder. And just to be a little more relevant to this thread, I still don't think rape movies are any worse than horror movies.
