Total Recall.
I just love this movie...not having seen it for about 3-4 years only made me enjoy it more. Classic stuff. I hope that one day I'll see another action/sci-fi movie I consider equal to this.

Definitely worth a watch, and when all is said and done, and a little time has passed, i will probably really come to like it. Ashe.

I feel the same way. GORGEOUS but with a lot of weaknesses.

Didnt like it very much. I thought the basic premise was a big letdown.
Zombie did a half-decent job with the atmosphere and the pacing, but overall...flat.
I sincerely hope he doesnt make #3.

Knowing (2008). Great story with some absolutely incredible special effects. i swear the score was in a Korean flick, maybe from the Oldboy series? i did not like the ending only because of its implications.

***Spoiler Alert***
As a non-Christian the biblical imagery and references were rather annoying. i mean, the star people had angelic freaking wings, ephemeral as they were. At the very end, in the new "Garden of Eden," i could not help but to look for apples in that tree amongst the fileds of gold. In all honesty, had the ending catered to my own beliefs in such a strong fashion then i probably would have loved it, but it didn't. Just saying. Ashe.

I liked it quite a bit. I knew exactly what I was going into when I went. I thought the movie was great in terms of visuals. I was surprised at how big of a role Brad Dourif had and was quite pleased with it. It was a fucking brutal movie, of course, but Zombie does a better job at fleshing out his characters (save Loomis) from his original. I never bought Laurie's "tough girl" act, though I thought that helped the movie. Annie seems to have matured and is worried about her father's health, which I thought was a pretty good decision. Brackett stole the show for me though, best performance in the movie. And damn it, I just love seeing Michael Myers!

Enjoyed it and I will be buying the DVD and using it frequently. I love watching Zombie's movies when I'm drunk with friends. Haha.

Currently at Festival of Fear - been spending most of my time checking out horror flicks in the "Screaming Rooms". Here's what I've caught so far:

My Name Is Bruce (2007)

Had rock bottom expectations for this - largely thanks to all the crap it gets around here - but I actually really enjoyed it. The plot was pretty ridiculous (of course) and the supporting cast was horrible...but Bruce made it all worthwhile. Even though he's just playing himself, it's got to be one of his most entertaining performances...hilarious.

Maybe it's just because my expectations were so low, or maybe it's just because I watched it in a room full of rabid Bruce Campbell fans, but for whatever reason I thought it was great fun.

Laid to Rest (2009)

Best slasher I've seen in years. In all honesty I'm pretty tired of the genre, but this was badass. The main thing that set it apart from the typical slasher was the main girl...she completely broke away from the traditional "survivor girl" formula, and her brain damage really made for a unique kind of character. On top of that, the kills were insane...usually I could care less about gore, but it's incredibly well done here - lots of the red stuff, and kills that I can bet you've never seen before; really original stuff and a super cool looking villain.

Highly recommended to all slasher fans, a must-see for sure.

Deadgirl (2008)

Well...definitely an original concept. It had some flaws in the script and some logic trouble in spots, but overall I was pretty impressed. Some fucked up shit in this one, but its a fresh idea and really well executed. I'd recommend this one as well...not as strongly as Laid to Rest, but it's worth a look for sure.

Poker Run (2008)

I'll be gentle on this one - the co-writer/producer was there introducing it, and said that we weren't watching the final edit. The film's only major issue was the pacing near the first; things took what seemed like forever to get started. Hopefully they fix that in the final cut, because once shit starts hitting the fan this is a pretty solid thriller. Doesn't really bring anything new to the table - two wannabe bikers go on a Poker Run with their wives, meet up with two guys who turn out to be all kinds of fucked up and kidnap the wives - but it turned out to be a pretty fucking brutal cat-and-mouse game. Nothing special really, but once it got going I was entertained for sure. I think some of you around here will like this one...not for everybody though.

That's it for now...going to check out at least one more tomorrow, maybe more depending on the schedule.

Sin Nombre (2009)

Beauty wrapped in ugliness wrapped in beauty wrapped in ugliness. It's a film which substitutes the flashiness these types of movies usually have (Meirelles, Lund and Boyle, I'm looking at you) and replaces it with moments of reflection, both soft and heavy. The violence is teetering on unbearable but for as many torturous moments as there are there are just as many moments of warmth, stemming from believable relationships of friendship and love. The story is helped by tremendous acting; Edgar Flores and Paulina Gaitan are extraordinary and revealing- heartbreakingly real. Through its themes of extreme human suffering, director Cary Fukunaga's debut film is filled with incredible photography and endearing storytelling.

Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Halloween 2

Wow. Rob Zombie might just be cool after all. That was fucking great! Not to mention Myers actually ANNIHILATING people with the knife for once. Constant stabs. The ending was a bit bizarre, but expected. It actually gave me a bit of a 'Dark Knight' feel. One scene comes to mind.

Walled In (2009)--Crap. Misha Barton can't act her way out of a wet paper bag, and Cameron Bright approaches Shia LaBeouf levels of annoyance.
