I keep meaning to pick it up - they shot most of it like 10 minutes from my house, and a guy I took a theatre class from was one of the main dude's body doubles. Plus, I crept by the set a few times and go to see Stuart Gordon at work, which was fuckin' cool.

The day the Earth Stood Still (2008)

I'm still not quite sure what to think about this. I just got home from the cinema and there are so many bad things (and quite a few good things) going on, that I haven't yet been able to sort out my thoughts.

There doensn't seem to be much of an emotional core to this film. You'd think mankind facing it's extinction would have a bit more impact, but it just sort of falls flat.

I really like the intention behind the "invasion" and the chosen method of destruction. I especially like the fact that there is no "chosen one" to save the world, this story is egalitarian and for the masses... which is cool.

But the kid and the effects and the acting:eek:

Keanu is kind of perfect as an alien inhabiting a human frame, but the treatemnt of GORT is terrible.

6/10

The Mosquito Coast.

Felt great to revisit this all-time classic. Ford is his usual enigmatic self, and Weir's direction is nothing short of brilliant. Good, solid premise and script. The support cast were a slight let-down though, cept for River.

Rating - * * * ½

Going to watch The Deer Hunter next.

Movies on EID holidays:

Suddenly, Last Summer (1959)

>>: B+

Masters of Horror: Dario Argento's Jenifer (2005)

It was a real surprise for me! Few days back I bought a dvd copy of the Masters Of Horror: Don Coscarelli's Incident On And Off A Mountain Road but the other night when I played it on my dvd player I found that they (the stupid dvd sellers) have made an 'awesome' mistake...they just put the wrong cover on it!

Anyways, Jenifer was hot & scary!

Burn After Reading (2008)

>>: B

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992)

A solid story with brilliant showcases of powerful acting.

>>: A

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)

What a beautiful timeless classic! Already added to my list of all time favorites.

>>: A+

Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)

Pretty good story...far better than the sequels of the RE film. Definitely worth a watch. Highly recommended to the fans of the original game. You'll like it.
(Oh man..Angela was too good..;) )

Overall, it was a nice 5 day long EID festival holidays for me.:)

The Deer Hunter.

Hard to believe this flick was made almost 30 years ago. Its taut, gripping and hard-hitting, packed with powerhouse performances by all of the cast - especially DeNiro. Dynamite script and brilliant direction. Highly recommended to all who havent seen it yet.
