Avast and Spybot work fine when used together. Can't beat free.

rated 13th out of 20, and it's only that high because it is "easy" to use.

Ah yes, rogue anti-spyware. The number of viruses disguised as anti-viruses is legion.

Go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/

The geeks over there can help you. Search their forums before you post a new topic, they've probably encountered your problem before. If you do post your problem it might take a few days for a response, they are busy.

Tell Me....

Is there a program (free) with an easy to use interface, that can monitor all uploads and downloads specifically?

The only reason I need it is because I think my ISP is doing something dodgy.
I have a pretty good package at least that's what she said...
I get 100gb off peak and 100gb ?on? peak with uploads included.

Now I've learned to keep an eye on things in terms of uploads so that I can make sure not to stuff up and exceed it without knowing...I also keep an eye here'n there on my usage through the calculator that the ISP themselves provide, so that if and when I'm nearing any kind of limit (usually gets used more in the "day" period) I'll cut back my usage so that my connection doesn't become speed-fucked.

A few days ago, nearing the end of my billing/usage period I noticed I'd got to 82% on my "day" usage.
So I stopped, well in advance, and didn't download so much as anything as big as a half-hour tv episode throughout the day period - I keep calling it that because I don't know which is on and which is off peak..it's 1am to 1pm I'm referring to here.
I actually think I stopped downloading altogether.

Now, I understand that when you so much as browse websites a certain amount of UL/DL happens. However, when I checked only 1-2 days later, my limit had been exceeded.
That's 18% of 100gb, so 18gb while trying specifically not to download and upload through any p2p programs and visiting only (predominately) known websites.
If browsing always took THAT much usage, then I'd never have any speed whatsoever after about a week into each period.

So that's why I'd like something to allow me to monitor it personally and not through the ISPs own site...because seriously, this just seems impossible and if they're doing something dodgy I'd like to know.

Comments/Suggestions welcome.

- B.

I think this is what you are looking for -

http://www.bwmonitor.com/

Or if you want a tab on all things uploaded and downloaded, you can use Speedbit or Download Accelerator Plus.

As V wrote, bandwidth monitor is a good program for monitoring/logging your uploads/downloads from your computer.

Of course, this will only show you uploads and downloads from that specific computer, so if there are other computers using your network, you will need to take that into consideration as well. Your router will likely show how much data has gone through the router, which is a better indicator if more than one computer is using your network...

Your actual data that your ISP registers is likely to be a little higher than what your computer registers, as there will be occasional packets of data that hit your router but are not forwarded to your computer (port scans, etc). More if someone is trying to DDOS you :-)

Also, most ISP's in my experience do what hard drive manufacturers do, and count megabytes/gigabytes in the decimal way (eg 1000 mb = 1 gb) whereas your computer counts them in the binary way (1024 mb = 1 gb) so your ISP will for this reason likely register a little more usage than your computer accounts for.

Having said all this, there is something obviously not right. Web browsing might use megabytes, not gigabytes (unless of course your web browsing includes lots of youtube videos, online gaming, online radio etc - ie if you are using lots of rich media sites, these can chew up the bandwidth a bit).

What ISP are you with? Just interested to know who in Australia gives you a 100gb/100gb on/off peak plan.

Other things that might be using up data at a higher rate than you predict:

- if you have virus/trojans that are using your computer as a spam relay/to ddos other computers.
- if you have a P2P program going (which you said you turned off)
- if someone is using your wifi network
- software is downloading updates (eg windows update, Steam games etc).

Anyway, that's just a few things to think about.
