Have you thought about backing up your data and reinstalling windows? It's the most sure way that you have to make sure you get rid of all the crap and get your system back to normal.

yeah just reformat your computer. If you don't have the original disk that came with it..you can find a cracked version online and burn it to a disk..or you might have to on someone else's computer since you probably won't be able to do so on yours. I reformat mine every so often when I get viruses..it's much easier. Anything that you want saved you will have to back up on a disk or another data storage device like a flash drive.

How to change IP address?

Lets say for an undisclosed reason (actually, someone having a grudge against me and was consequently told to get fucked) I was banned from a specific site, or a hub as it were...I get a message saying my IP has been banned.

I'd like to have access to this site/hub again as I use it regularly.
So, any way to get a new IP address?
I am on adsl 2, I could be wrong but I thought the ip address refreshed/renewed every time the modem was reset?
Did this, didn't work.
Tried next to use a high anonymity proxy server when I logged in.
Didn't work.

So, what's next?

As to whether your IP refreshes or not, it depends if your ISP allocates you a dynamic or static IP. Who are you with?

Even if you have a dynamic IP, it may not tend to change often. Best to turn your modem off, and wait eg 30 mins before turning it back on and see if you get a different IP. Also, some sites might ban a block of IPs because of the dynamic IP situation.

As far as proxies go, what sort did you use? If it was a transparent proxy, then if the site is well written it will see your "real" IP. Some sites will block known proxy servers to avoid people hiding their IP behind a proxy. Try using TOR.

It's like a P2P application as opposed to a site.
I had the modem unplugged all night, but I've yet to see the result.
Lets say this dynamic IP thing IS the case, what would be a way around that?

It was a "highly anonymous" one...didn't say anything about transparency, I just enabled it, went back in, same shit happened.
...I don't know what TOR is.

TPG generally gives you a static IP address, unless you are on one of their lower end plans. Look at tpg.com.au - log into your account and look at "ADSL Settings".

"Configuration Option" will tell you what you have (static or dynamic IP).

Now, with regards to the proxy, it depends on what port this software is using. Some proxy services only proxy port 80 (ie http traffic). If it is a P2P program, you may be using another port and may have to set up a proxy and stipulate for it to use that port specifically. Google privoxy and TOR, and Vidalia. This should be able to be configured to do what you require.

Windows 7

Anybody tried the Beta for this yet?

I never upgraded to Vista from my XP Service Pack 2 edition because I heard about all the bugs in it and how XP was a much, MUCH better option. Plus, I heard they would be rolling out Windows 7 soon so it made sense to wait.

I read about the beta being available for download. How is it?

And will you be upgrading to 7 too, once it is released?

Linux OSes are actually much more efficient, but sadly lack plenty of independent software support from other companies. Same old story - VHS vs Betamax, Playstation vs Dreamcast...the one with the golden band always wins in the end.

Anything would be an improvement over Vista.

I don't know just yet. Don't think I will beta test either way. I have had literally no problem with Windows Vista thus far. I run some pretty heavy programs for school and haven't had any real issues. Had to download a service pack to get 3D Studio Max to run properly, but everything else is great.

Don't see what all the fuss is.

Vista came installed on my laptop and I've never had a problem with it. BUT I don't ask a whole lot of an OS--I'm not doing anything that requires any heavy duty lifting. I think they patched a bunch of the holes, but like I said, what I ask of an OS isn't too strenuous.
