American Gangster.

I am not a very big fan of Denzel Washington, but I must admit...he impressed the heck out of me in this one. He and Russell Crowe are picture-perfect characters who are involved in a cops and robbers game with a nice mobster touch, re-living the legend of Frank Lucas, the ruler of New York of the 70s. Rivetting movie from start to finish, complimented by some really brilliant direction by Ridley Scott.

I highly recommend this to Alky, newb, Rod, Jenna, Fortunato and the rest who love fast-paced, gritty flicks which leaves you glued to your seats.

Yep, 'twas a good one, indeed. It's a three hour jolt ride that feels just over sixty minutes. I loved it.

This was kind of a let down for me. It had good intentions, and it was visually arresting, but I had a hard time buying any of it.
i totally agree.
i was pretty excited about this one, too, but it felt just...silly.
eye rolls a-plenty in the last 45 minutes or so.

It had so much potential, too. Hoffman! Rickman! Oh my!
Pity...

I really wanted to watch Rear Window, but my damn satellite company doesn't carry TCM. Thanks for that. Instead I watched Scarecrows in HD. I own the DVD, tried watching it, but I found it to be too dark to make anything out. I'm glad I caught an HD airing.

As for the film itself... I likely won't watch it again. No big loss, it was a 2/for deal with The Burning... which I WILL be watching again.
