Black Christmas
![]() Wow. A slasher film that predates Halloween by 4 years, it's amazing how much the iconic John Carpenter film borrowed from Black Christmas. From the eerie music to the first-person-killer point of view to the direction, it's obvious how much this movie has influenced the slasher genre. I'm actually quite surprised how much this film does NOT come up in discussion of the every growing slasher mythos and tome... I found the themes, images, an archetypes fascinating that they might have originated here. And besides from being a quality slasher film, it also touches on controversial topics at the time (1974), women's rights, freedom abortion - I thought that the movie examines the feminine differently than the usual slasher (that simply treats them as objects and victims). An amazing slasher film and one that I will have to add to my Christmas movie list. A/A+ |
