if your making copies of something I suggest DVD Shrink. as for your problem I am really unsure of what needs to be done. I have had problems with my movies in the past too but the problem was caused by me doing stuff on my computer while burning. they would always skip and such. what version of Nero do you have?

Just managed to burn off something that turned out fine...
I basically can't run ANYTHING else while burning though, unless I want to fuck up the copy. I guess the pc's getting a little old.
This kinda shit makes me real thirsty for a new one.

Anyways, defragging now too, which I normally do on at least a weekly basis...but since returning, the incoming file traffic and changes have been quite heavy, so it built up a lot...

Er...ok, I'll try.
Whenever you move around files, load or download new files or programs, burn off or uninstall stuff...etc...it's like little peices of the files become left behind = fragmentation. Not so much things that the files require to run, more like dust on a bookshelf kinda thing.
The more of this stuff, the slower programs run...etc...so, you use "disk defragmenter" to fix it. Using search on your pc should find it, most pcs have it standard. Run it through, and analyse. Red = bad.

to elaborate on what phalanx said, things run slwoer because even though browsing through explorer, two files a program uses appear to be sitting right next to each other, in reality, they can be scattered about the physical hard drive, making the program work harder, since the operating system has to skip back and forth to run the program.

think of your hard drive as a book, and the files are all pages. A fragmented drive will have pages scattered all over the place. So say you are trying to read chapter 2, and you have to go to page 3, then 33, then 400, then 10, then 1000, then back to 11... you get the idea. Defragging makes it so chapter 3 is normal, you go from ,say, page 20, to 21 to 22 to 23, etc.

in one big file. defragging will achieve this.

also .. depending on the speed of your PC, etc ... you probably shouldnt do anything while burning. .. walk away from the PC until its done.
I was just going to the say the same thing. Do a scan disk, disk clean up and a defrag(You should do them all in this order) and it should work fine afterwards. My PC does the same thing if I don't defrag regularly.

I also don't do anything else while burning CDs, other programs running will slow it down and cause burning problems.

Also, with NERO, make sure you turn on buffer underrun protection.

converting

Does anyone know of a free software download that can convert video clips (like my movie trailers and stuff) to a video ipod format? I had one before but forgot the name.
