Saw V, VI, VII and possibly VIII!

It turns out there's plenty of life left in "Saw" and Jigsaw John.

With "Saw VI" due to open in the usual October slot, Lionsgate has greenlit "Saw VII" with a January start of production.
David Hackl -- production designer of the second, third and fourth films and helmer of "Saw V" -- has been tapped to direct.

Mark Burg and Oren Koules, who have produced all six of the "Saw" pics, are back as producers.
And scribes Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, who penned the fourth, fifth and sixth films, are writing the seventh.

Lionsgate has worldwide rights in North America and the United Kingdom.
The five "Saw" pics to date have grossed more than $700 million worldwide.

Dunstan and Melton, who broke into Hollywood via Project Greenlight, also wrote home-invasion thriller "The Collector," which opens next weekend through Freestyle Releasing.
That pic also marks Dunstan's helming debut.

This film series was in the dumps after part 2, which is a pity given how fresh the original Saw film was when it came out.

I like the saw and am a huge fan (not 14 either :) ) I think there is still so much to go on and so far the only one I didnt really care for was 2 but V's ending was great and I think 6 will be awesome too

IGN had the chance to sit down with the producer, director and writers of the upcoming Saw VI to discuss the future of the franchise, and while all involved were fairly mum on the plot of the newest film and where it might go in the next installment, they did talk about the decision to film Saw VII in 3-D.

"Saw, just by the way it's shot, lends itself to being a 3-D movie," said producer Mark Berg. "We saw a test that somebody did, a minute of Saw transferred from 2-D to 3-D and it looked great. We're not going to transfer VII, but we'll actually shoot it in 3-D. We want to be able to build the sets in a way that takes advantage of depth. We're going to design traps to come out at you. The pendulum trap that opened the last movie would have been great in 3-D. There's a lot of the movie we're planning through the victims eyes, seeing stuff as it comes toward them. But I think the audience wants those moments where the weapon comes into the audience."

Co-writer Marcus Dunstan seemed enthusiastic about the jump to 3-D. "It adds a whole new layer of discipline and criteria to creating these moments. We've had a very flat surface to try to get a reaction out of you. Now, we get to push out a bit and envelop the viewer, still maintaining the patterns that have worked and been successful, but also to raise it up a notch."

"When you say you're doing 3-D, everybody thinks you have to go out and show the widest vistas and the most majestic landscapes," added co-writer Patrick Melton. "But in a way, when we go to 3-D on the Saw films, it's like an anti-3-D movie. We're now in a box, and it's going to make the house of horrors come to life even more. Now we have a lead character and you're going to be inside this place with him and when things come out at him, they'll also come out at you."

As far as where the series might go from there, don't expect to get much from Berg. "We have the story threaded through Saw VIII. Where it goes beyond that, I couldn't tell you."

Seriously. Stop with the 3D. It was ok for a few movies but thats all movies are now is 3D it seems. To many 3D movies takes away from the "novelty" of it all.

i just watched a trailer for saw VI.. i have to say it doesn't do it for me.. but i'll watch it to see if it's any good when it's in the cinema.. but i don't see how it's going to be good.. i think they've gotten it all finished with after V saw films.. don't get me wrong i LOVE the saw films.. and i am hoping i'm wrong to think the new saw films won't be good or as good as the others.. so fingers crossed ;)

i havnt really seen the new film becasue i am too young but i thought that the other films of the saws was quite good but not as good as the first, but then how the ghell does the original man jigsaw find other ppl to kill now that he is dead??

but i thought that the poster on the wall for the new saw looked really really good.

Despite Saw VI getting trounced at the box office, Lionsgate has confirmed that the horror series will continue.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns said at the Media and Money conference in New York on Thursday that Saw VII will go ahead. "As long as we make money on it we'll keep doing this," the studio exec declared.

In related news, Shock Till You Drop reports that Lionsgate and Twister Pictures have set a October 22, 2010 release date for Saw VII, which will also be the first installment in the series made for 3-D.

Returning for VII are screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton and director David Hackl, as well as stars Costas Mandylor and (presumably) Tobin Bell.
