Maybe you just seem to be a "father figure" to him, and he likes you. How old is your son? Because if he's upwards around 9 and getting older, it could actually be his own projection. It may never manifest as an actual poltergiest, but rather he has a very powerful imagination, much like his father.

Do you ever get a glimpse of the hairstyle, and does it seem contemporary? Or any sense of clothing the figure is wearing?
Any strange impressions from out of nowhere of who it is, what type of person it is, etc.? How old is the structure you're living in?
