I think the problem that everyone had was it WAS so different. It took jason and gave him a Mythos and a bit of explanaition to his inability to truly die. People wanted more, sex, woods, dead.... Not story and rules in a Jason movie *gasps* Heaven forbid someone try something new in a tired genre

I have no problem whatsoever with JGTH.
Many of the f13 films were pretty similar, so, for me, the changes made to the style and storyline of this movie were all good.
No doubt fans of the entire series would have issues with this one being a little different, but hey...that's their bad if they can't enjoy the film on account of this.
As for myself, in all honesty I only REALLY liked the 1st, and JGTH, not surprising that the same person did both of these, and none of the others. I LIKED the further explanation of Jason and the Vorhees family "curse", I liked that he could switch bodies, and IMO, the storyline, dialodgue and characters were a lot better than those in most of the films, IMO.
Each to their own...but I will never understand the big problem a lot of the f13 "fans" have with this movie...

I saw this movie as a kid. The only thing I remember is a weird book that looks like the book in The Evil Dead.

Yeah, I don't know what the circumstances were surrounding the appearance of the book in the movie, but it IS meant to be the necronomicon (same book), the skull dagger thing from evil dead also appears, before turning into a sword in the hands of the Voorhees woman.
I take it that these are the things that lead to the rumours of the potential Ash role in the F vs J sequel.

Again, I personally loved JGTH.

sure its a classic... and a guy eats a heart, but still.

It's not so much the dagger but who stabs him. Anyway, I have the uncut version on DVD and it's great. I went through my Fri. 13th movies after I saw this post and realized I don't have Jason Takes Manhatten. Oh well, Jason Goes to Hell is better.

..this is probably the goriest in the serie..I saw it again and I liked it...some dumb characters especially those who work in that burger bar.
...and like some have mentioned it has that evil dead book and dagger...and the Freddy arm....i'm surprised that nobody has mentioned "The Hidden"..some scenes are very alike

GOD did I hate this movie.

It really had decent potential, but it got too "magical".

I loved just about every Friday the 13th movie up until part 7. After that, they suck. But Jason Goes to Hell just isn't right.

Wasn't as bad as Jason X.
