Nebraska (2013)

Nice character driven piece with great acting all round. Some pretty funny moments which I didn't expect. Bruce Dern is as good as always.

Thor 2: The Dark World

+ Good cast, good acting.
+Great special effects
+Kat Dennings :)

- First half is a bit slow.
-Some bits are plain stupid (a society with lasers for air defence yet its soldiers fight with swords).
-Ending was a bit weird.
-Like most Marval movies there's a scene after the credits.
Just put the thing at the end of the movie.

Grrr, I was in the hospital half the week, which almost made me go through horror movie-withdrawal. Thankfully, I had a nice pile of red Netflix envelopes waiting for me when I got home.

So, my week in movies...

Hell Baby (2013)--I did see the original Scary Movie, but that's as far as my experience with parody/spoof movies goes. I thought this movie was cute, particularly the "kick-ass" Vatican exorcists, but that might just be because I'm R.C.

Bad Milo (2013)--I really wanted to see this film after I read the summary and I'm glad I did. But again, I think I'm bound to be prejudiced when it comes to a movie dealing with stomach stuff. This film resonates with me for only one reason; I'm currently living with a GI-related chronic illness that is extremely severe, virtually untreatable and incurable and involves frequent hospitalizations (see above), feeding tubes, multiple surgeries, etc. So yeah, I thought it was awesome for a movie like Bad Milo to come along. It was so silly and corny. I think I'm going to make all my doctors watch it, haha.

And last, but certainly not least, I finally got to see Livide (2011)!!! God, this movie was my white whale for a long time. I couldn't find it anywhere, but luckily my computer geek uncle has a regions free DVD/blu-ray player, so I was able to get the DVD from England and watch it. I was actually a bit surprised by Miss Jessel and her daughter's "secret", but the plot was a far-cry from most of the tired cliches one usually associates with these kinds of films. Overall, an enjoyable movie. Now let's just hope they don't move forward with the American remake.

Welcome To The Jungle (2013)
Comedy starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and a bunch of other familiar faces.
Funny but not haha funny. I just wished they went completely over the top.
Still better than I expected.
Van Damme showed some real comedy potential. I hope he'll do more comedies.
A lot of those actors can be funny if they take themselves to seriously.
And he certainly doesn't in this movie.

The Wannabes (aka Criminal Ways)

A goofy Australian film from 2003. It's supposed to be making fun of The Wiggles but i'd rather watch The Wiggles any day.

It was too inappropriate for children and too juvenile for adults - and it looks like most of the critics felt the same way. The lead is supposed to be a terrible actor in the movie - they found the right guy for the job. I guess they also wanted a terrible director (same guy)

That said i laughed a couple times at things that were so stupid they were funny.

The Open Door.

A forgettable film with an interesting premise. Every full moon a mysterious pirate radio appears (on channel 999) and when you call in you can make a wish - which always ends badly - aka The Monkey's Paw.

Given a different cast, instead of the usual 1 dimensional cannon fodder, and this could have been more interesting.

Khaleesi, sorry to hear you were in the hospital! Is everything OK now?

I watched The Colony last night. Not bad. Not great, but pretty good.

Evidence [2012]

A weirdly messed up found footage flick.

The Hungover Games.
Stupid. Though probably funnier than the last Hangover film...the guy doing the Ed Helms impression nails it.
I'd reco a hire if you want a cheap laugh.

I'd really like to find out the name of the camo/tree chick, would like to check her out without the makeup.

It's one of the least annoying films of this type in a while.
Hm...maybe 5/10. Bad, but not boringly or terribly bad.

The Art Of The Steal

The cast really had a great chemistry going on in this one. Terrance Stamp stole the show. Solid script too with some great dialogue and some genuine laughs. Sure it's familiar territory and not exactly groundbreaking but this was a really likeable and entertaining film.

Mediocre. Typical plot, typical ending and lazy acting.

The Pact

This couldve been a lot better. There were some creepy moments but the story wasn't fleshed out enough and it felt too small.
