i thought certain points were funny as hell, my problem was - why did they bother trying to have the 'touching bonding moment' at the end - why bother tell any kind of a story at all? you were just there to see peoples reactions to the crazy shit he did - at no point were you 'in the story' so that angle was a complete waste .. still, a hell of a lot of funny moments

It took me awhile to like him for some reason but now I always check out his flicks and enjoy them.
------ RUSH - Beyond The Lighted Stage ![]() Love music documentaries and this one was great. Reminded me I need to check out more of their albums. Down to earth and really talented dudes. It was an interesting story. It's always bothered me how a lot of bands from this era got eclipsed by Zeppelin and Floyd going largely unnoticed by a lot of people. Great stuff. |

i still struggle with Statham ...i'm not a fan of his acting. he can kick ass - but i think he does his best work as a villain where being one dimensional is a little more forgiving if played as camp glad you dug the RUSH doc. I have one or 2 of Neil Peart's books (haven't read them yet) was surprised they never talked about that. The guy had a couple of rough years there.

I always thought he was doing a bit of a Clint Eastwood impersonation which I didn't like. The Expendables won me over however and I've liked him since and I like the formula of the majority of his films (guess it reminds me of all the 80s action stuff I loved as a kid).

i think i liked Crank as his best work - it's a smart action film.
i know there's a lot of nostalgia for the 80's action films but they were pretty formulaic and simple. When i see attempts to recreate them now, i cringe.. (i'd rather go back and watch the old arnold or van damme film) there is a new breed of action film now - smart, complex, well edited, wildly paced ...but fluid I prefer them a hell of a lot more to the films i grew up with.

----- Back In The Day ![]() Pretty bad really but there were a couple of funny moments and I liked how the ending strayed away from the usual cliches. |

Escape Plan (2013)
Pretty much what I expected but I still enjoyed it. It wasn't great, but it was worth watching. Commenting on Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage I'm a huge Rush fan. I saw Beyond when it first came out and it is an excellent documentary. And while Alex Lifeson didn't make me pick up a guitar (that was Randy Rhoads) Fly By Night, Working Man & The Trees were some of the first songs I learned and he has definitely been an influence on me over the years. I saw them this last year on the Clockwork Angels Tour and even though Geddy has been gradually losing some of his ability to hit those high notes over the past few years, they really do still have "it" and still put on a great show.
