Last Seen 70s/80s Movie

I just finished A Nightmare On Elm Street about 5 minutes ago.Definately my favourite horror movie.

And as for this film supposedly being a metaphor for gay rights... I will tell you right now, it's not. And anyone that thinks it is has obviously never read the comic books because the humans fearing/hating/wanting to cure the mutants has been an ongoing storyline since the comics came out in the early 60s. If anything it was probably more of a parallel to the Civil Rights movement back then, but it is certainly not something new that Hollywood just came up with to bring attention to some homosexual agenda. It's always been a part of the X-Men story.

i did read the comics .. and yep that theme was there - but it lends itself to the theme of the moral majority wanting to 'cure gays' - not understanding them - feeling threatened by them.

the theme was there before for sure but its easy to see where the person who made this film took the ball and ran with it in s slightly different bent. its in the aesthetic of the film, not just the history of the comic.

I went and saw Macbeth today, I thought it was great. It's an australian adaptation based on the melbourne underground crime scene. I have a friend who plays girl shooter one, she died in the first five minutes. But it was a cool movie by Geoffery Wright.

Before I went to the award ceremony, I watched The Graduate (1967) for the 25th time or so.

The late 60's and 70's were a golden age for cinema.

Anybody who is "different" people want to "cure" and people often feel threatened by them. If gay people could tear stuff up with claws, shoot fire balls, and control my mind THEN I'd be scared.

I guess I don't see where you're coming from on this. You realize that was a longstanding premise, but you think the premise in the movie is somehow different than the one in the comic book? What specifically in the film made you correlate mutants to homos?

not 'different' per say - i just think the filmmaker took the opportunity to use it as sort of a parable to mirror the gay persecution.

especially angels story ...

i'm not saying you have to see it - but it sure seems obvious to me ..

i guess it doesnt help that Sir Ian Mckellen is their leader :)
