The Cable Guy

This is right there with Dumb & Dumber as one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies. It's also kinda funny to see all the cameo from then relatively unknown comedians like Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Janine Garofolo, Jack Black, etc... Funny, dark and probably one of the highlights of Jim Carrey's career in my eyes...

The Evil Dead

You gotta respect any movie that blatantly blows over half it's budget on gore & FX. Being in the low budget film industry (sort of) I really can appreciate how much some films accomplish with so little. This is one of the best minute budget films ever made in terms of entertainment value. Sure, there are some corny lines and bad acting but it all adds to the fun of a great, sloppy, cult classic.

That would sorta defeat the entire purpose of the movie. He'll die, although I don't know if I'll be there to see it seeing as I wasn't a real big fan of the orginal. Too much singing and naked hippy dancing for me... The last 10 minutes are cool though.

Flowers of Flesh & Blood

This is the supposed sequel to 'Devil's Experiment' in the Guinea Pig Series, yet it is the third DVD of the boxset??!! Anyway I watched this expecting the same sick gore of 'Devil's Experiment' and boy did I get it. This is obviously a case of doing everything from D.E x 10 ! More gore, more torture for a longer duration. Great if you like this kind of thing, if not stay away.

Making of Guinea Pig

This is quite an interesting docu-film talking to the director's and crew of the Guinea Pig Series. Quite informative with scenes from all the movies. Not bad as documentaries go.

Boogeyman 2

This is one strange puppy of a movie...pretty much yourt average slasher although there are a couple of extremely memorable kills. Pretty much all been done before, but it was ok.

Equilibrium

Star Wars aside I have never really been into sci-fi or action films particularly (ok, so I have watched Flight of the Navigator, The Last Starfighter, E.T. & Batteries Not Included - but these hardly count as sci-fi!). I have never been interested in the Matrix movies so when I saw this in the bargain bin for £2.49 I strayed from the norm. and after many positive reports from people on this forum decided to take the plunge and purchase it. I found this to be a really good popcorn movie! Ok so some of it is hilariously silly ( I can't think of Christian Bale's rivals name in the movie) but his acting I thought was shocking, as was the dialogue (particularly the part that he is screaming " I cannot feel") or something along those lines...for a guy who is meant to be emotionless he had a darned angry expression throughout the film, I think he should have been subjected to tests before Mr Bale!! hehehe. This aside though I thought the actions sequences were amazing and the overall film is a must see

sympathy for lady vengeance

great film. it was pretty lo-budget but the shots came off like a big-budget movie. great cinematography, beautiful scenes, good acting. it's a little hard to follow b/c the story telling is not chronological and the subtitles come and go pretty quickly. it jumps around a lot like memento, but definitely a must see. think kill bill minus all the hoakie violence and more dramatic acting.

The Ringer

I thought that this Johny Knoxville comedy could have been better but overall it was a fairly funny movie. It does come though with the typical sickly slushy feel good ending but due to the hilarious scene with the chinese girl with the incredibly small head (still makes me laugh now thinking about it).

Revolver

After receiving much slating in the British Press this latest Guy Ritchie movie soon found itself in the sales in my local HMV. I picked it up hoping that this would be a good addition to what I consider 2 amazing previous Guy Ritchie movies; Snatch (my fave) & Lock Stock. Although I would consider this easily the least impressive of the 3 movies it is still nevertheless a worthy addition, a couple of good twists - typical Ritchie plots and a good solid performance by Ray Liotta. Not unmissable but worth a viewing.

7/10

The Frighteners

I must admit to owning this on VHS for the best part of 5 years and NEVER viewing it. Quite shocking, I know...so when I saw this in the bargain bins (poss. due to the recent spec. ed. double DVD release) I had to pick it up and find out what I have been missing out on - which proved to be alot! Jackson really has pulled out all the stops with this fast moving thrill-a-minute ride. Michael J Fox is great in this little spook roller-coaster of fun. I know most of you on here have seen this so I won't bore you all with details but this really is a quality spook fest. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Possessed

When I picked this up the instant attraction was that many years ago I purchased the book 'Possessed' by T. Allen which being a fanatic on the Exorcist I found to be a chilling read. This movie which is based 'on the real version of events' or so it says on the cover grabbed my attention, not to mention that the thought of James Bond ( Timothy Dalton) wrestling with the devil grabbed my imagination so it had to be an instant purchase.
What I got was a cheap Exorcist rip off. Don't get me wrong, I love The Exorcist and normally seeing rip off's of classics I find enfuriating to say the least but aside from 'Possessed's final 20 mins or so I actually quite enjoyed it.
If you are into possession movies in a big way then you might get something from this. If you love the exorcist and want to see another poor mans version then give it a whirl. If not stick with the one and only Exorcist (or Exorcist 3) - you just can't beat the originals.

6.5/10

Saw

After purchasing Saw II I decided I would re-watch the original and then follow it with the sequel having a Saw-Saturday night Special! Even though I obviously knew the twist I still found this movie enthralling from start to finish.
Destined to become a classic.

10/10

Saw II

I was intrigued to see what they would come up with as a sequel. Would there be the infamous twist as per the original? Yes of course! I was really impressed with this sequel. It had good tension and I loved the fact we got to really know the back story of Jigsaw. Excellent.

Assault on Precinct 13

Continuing on with my Carpenter season I plucked this from my attic - dusted it down and slammed it into my DVD player. After initially being hit once more with what I can only describe as the most addicitive theme tune EVER (it's still in my head - and now due to humming it constantly for over a week, in my colleagues at work heads also...de de de de de derr) i finally got into what can simply be described as a classic piece of film making. This film for me has lost none of it's original effect, * SPOILER* the shooting of the little girl for instance still shocks to this day. I have never watched the remake as I could not see how it could do anything but fail to live up to this masterpiece. I would rather just watch this again.

yeah they started strong and politically incorrect but then they completely chickened out ..

Knoxvilles performance as a 'developmentally delayed person was abysmal .. pulling up his pants and saying 'me' instead of 'i'm' was the extent of his range (me jeffy)
it just became mushy and preachy so damn fast.

i think they still could have kept the message while remaining rude and offensive throughout the movie..

Finally got around to watching Jenifer. I love how these MOH episiodes are only an hour long, I had tome to watch this before work (and still have time to come here and post about it:p)

I thought it was very good. The ending was beyond obvious, but otherwise there was a couple unexpected bits.

My new MOH ranking:

1. Cigarette Burns
2. Dreams in the Witch House
3. Dear Woman
4. Jenifer
4. Chocolate
5. Incident On and Off a Mountain Road
6. Sick Girl
7. Homecoming
