Definitive and Decorative Books?

Alright, so I have decided to get into a little book collecting and reading again. I am not only wanting the complete works of these books, but ones that are decorative and will look nice on a shelf.

I'm going to be looking for these one at a time. Due to budget, and that there are so many versions of books available.

First on my list, is Lewiss Carroll's, Alice In Wonderland. No, this is not a sudden impulse buy with the movie. I've been looking for awhile for the version of this that would be best suited.

I want a hardback edition. Unabridged, and preferably, not a version with a bunch of zany graphics on it. I am looking for one with the illustrations in the book as well.

Also looking for the companion book, Through The Looking Glass (And What Alice Found There). I want it to be a separate copy if possible, but if I can find one that is nice enough with both of these stories in one, that will suffice. Also a nice looking hardback version.

Any help on where to find something like this, would be much appreciated. I have looked on amazon, and have found nothing that really seems to fit what I am looking for.

Here's a hardcover edition that has the original Tenneil illustrations:

Great price too.

First of all, good for you. It's a good habit to get into and sometimes you'll find something really special. Second, there's a great omnibus edition of Carroll's work with the Tenniel illustrations. For me, using anybody else's art for Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass is akin to putting new art in a Dr. Seuss book, it simply shouldn't be done. My girlfriend has it somewhere in the house. I'll ask after the title and give you an Amazon link.

This looks really good. There is only one thing bugging me about it though. The cover says it has Through The Looking Glass in it as well. But the sidebar says it has only 136 pages. Which is the same as the normals Alice In Wonderland. Through The Looking Glass paperback edition on amazon has 208 by itself.

Much appreciated! I will look into this a little further.

That would be great! Thank you. And yes, I agree. I have a set of books that have some of the old stories in them. They are falling apart though. They contained the original artwork. One of the stories was a part from Alice In Wonderland. Unfortunately the person whom owned the books before I got them, thought it would be great fun to draw in them with an ink pen.
